Man! To think yesterday was windy was crazy. In comparison to today, yesterday was only a light breeze!

It is INSANE out there! Every year, I forget how fierce the Nebraska winds can become. It is howling and whistling and swirling out there, and the rains haven't even started. Yikes!

I'm fixin' to light all my candles now, in case the power goes out this evening. Oh, and speaking of candles, my PartyLite® show has arrived... with the exception of one box, containing an incense set for [livejournal.com profile] beanpop. I hope to take pictures of everything tomorrow, and then I'll begin packing up the boxes to ship out. I won't mail anything until next week though, after Philip and I have returned from our weekend away. :-)

It was POURING down the rain when I left Runza and picked up the boys from school. They were drenched!

I got gas today, and it was $2.99/gallon. I haven't seen it that cheap in a long time.

Several of our "regulars" commented nicely on my haircut today. I felt all sorts of good about that. And today marked my two-year anniversary working at Runza - wheee!
navygreen: (Rain)
Lots and lots of rain last night. It's still booming far away right now, but the forecast says it is supposed to clear off and be sunny soon, and definitely for this afternoon. I hope so - we have a "rain date" in place for this party, but it leaves us with an option we don't want to take!

And OMG, the sea of orange continues...
navygreen: ('Affairs:' recap)
On Thursday afternoon, I sped through my tasks so I could leave work a bit early. I changed clothes there, then headed up to the boys' school for A.J.'s recorder concert. It was an hour-long program, and he did very well playing several tunes on his recorder. I was proud. :-)

Yesterday, Friday afternoon, I again left work a bit early, changing clothes as well. I then sped to the boys' school once more, this time for Jack's kindergarten celebration concert. Yesterday was also 'Rainbow Day' for school spirit, and the kindergarteners had been assigned to wear red (A.J.'s fourth grade class was wearing green.) Jack sang his songs and did the hand-motioning, all the while not falling off the top tier of the stadium rows. He had another speaking part, too! (I didn't know that previously, but I stood up quickly and got a good picture of him during it.) After his program, he munched on some sweets at a cookie reception, and then we grabbed A.J. to leave school about fifteen minutes early.

Then last night was 'Family Fun Night' at the Lied Activity Center. We had hotdogs, chips and soda, and the boys went swimming. (As an aside, it is SO nice now that, after being in swim lessons for a year - and still continuing them - that the boys can easily swim on their own. Not just tread water, but officially SWIM. Philip and I don't have to get in the water, and instead, can watch from the sidelines for now. ROCK.) Jack waited in line for minutes on end to meet with a clown, and he was then rewarded with a balloon bow-and-arrow (orange, of course). A.J. left the pool to join a rowdy game of dodgeball, and - surprise! His team won, though it was a long, hard battle. He was breathless and sweaty, but just grinning as we watched the end of the game.

Everyone went to bed early last night and slept WELL. I don't even remember waking once!

Today, the boys and I shuttled off to the commissary to pick up a few sundry items (stopping on the way to deliver a special card). We grabbed a bite to eat at the BX, then came home quickly to drop off our goods. It was colder and wetter than anticipated, so we grabbed jackets before then heading back out, this time to the Rose Theater to catch a performance of "Horrible Harry." We all really enjoyed the quirky, fun play, and then we drove out to ColdStone Creamery for a special snack afterwards.

Now we're back home, and we've got church in an hour. The rain has been coming down gently for a few hours now, and I can't wait to get back in from church, light some candles and heat up a few pizzas for dinner. It'll be a cozy night in after the craziness of the last several days!

Finally.

The rain is starting. And not just the rain, either. I can hear large, fat hailstones ping! the gutters even as I type. They've been forecasting this storm for a few days, but it's taken forever to get here.

Thank goodness Philip got the yard freshly mowed today (well, yesterday). He even trimmed, making everything all nice and neat again. Now the rain can go ahead and soak right in. :-)
navygreen: (Rain)
Dishes.
Spaghetti.
Jack's swim lessons.
Kitty-sitting for Heather.

But it's rainy and cold out, and I've been in it all day. I don't want to do anything right now except stay indoors and have a nap.

*sigh*
navygreen: (Rain)
It is raining.

Finally.

We haven't had rain in almost a month. It sounds so lovely that it woke me up. I do wish it would continue on for hours.
navygreen: (Rain)
If I go water the flowerbed, it will rain later on.
If I do not, it will not.

I can't win. *sigh*

I got the mail today. Only two items, but both were freebies. Two silver rings from 2 SMRT 4 U, and a sample from SlimJim ("Step into a SlimJim!"). Not too shabby.
navygreen: (Snowflake)
It was snowing this morning when I took both boys to school. Absolutely crazy, and so WRONG. It's April, for crying out loud.

Jack had a fun playdate at Caleb's house this afternoon while I was at work. He's got playdates scheduled for these two weeks while his regular caregiver is away on vacation. It's nice that folks are willing to help us out like this, too.

I need to call someone about the lawn. I intended to do that yesterday afternoon, but it was raining all day long (a nice, soft rain, but still - all day long), and it drained me of my motivation. And then the snow today. Who knows what the ground/grass is really going to be like after all this?

I had a very vivid, strange-but-good dream about [livejournal.com profile] posthaste and her baby Soph today. I was repeating the dream to myself while I took a shower this morning so that I wouldn't forget the details. I'll have to tell Jess about it - hopefully she'll get a kick out of my REMs. ;-)

I'm hungry. Oh, and it's time to go pick up A.J. from school soon. Afterwards, I'm taking both boys to the base clinic to update their immunizations. Jack is already in tears of the prospect of new shots, but it's an evil that must be done. :-/
navygreen: (Rain)
I do not mind lovely rain showers at times when I have nowhere to go, nor anything to do. Times when I've just returned home from grabbing a few movies with our free rentals, just missing the beginning of the downpour.

Times just like these. :-)

It is ironic to note that the movie A.J. picked out with his coupon is Flushed Away. So poetic.
navygreen: (Rain)
It rained thunderstorms off and on all night long, and it's kept up for part of the morning as well. When it's not raining, it's still looking quite overcast and like it WILL very soon. It works for me, however, as I'll gladly take an unplanned day of lounging around. ;-)

I decided even before the storming started last night that I was really too exhausted from yesterday to think about waking up early this morning and sowing the many rows of carrots. Once it actually started storming, I knew for certain that I wouldn't want to be out in the garden's muddy mess, so I figured I'd wait and see how much it would dry out by this evening. With the continuous rain, that plan doesn't seem likely either. Ah, well. I'll do them soon, I'm sure.

The boys were both dead tired last night. Poor Jack fell asleep on the couch while we were making dinner, and he just couldn't be fussed to eat when I woke him up. He ran from the couch straight to his room when I gave him the choice: eat or go on to bed? He went to bed still wearing his t-shirt from the day, but I did talk him out of his jean shorts so I could toss them into the laundry (I know you're shuddering right now, [livejournal.com profile] thosethatloveme *wink*). I told A.J. he could have a chocolate chip cookie after he finished his dinner, but then he needed to change into his pajamas, and I'd let him watch cartoons for a bit longer (he relishes the time by himself, I know). He finished his dinner, ate the cookie and then asked me for a blanket (he was still cold from all the water play earlier, I'm sure). I forgot about asking him to change clothes myself, and the next thing I knew, he was sound asleep on the couch, wrapped up in a blanket and snuggled in with Larry the Cucumber™ (did you notice WHICH blanket, [livejournal.com profile] gardenmama?). I ushered him to bed, helped him get in his pajamas and then turned out his light for him. Sweet boys.

I really DO need to spend some time indoors today, so the weather has just given me the chance to do so without feeling guilty. The boys are relaxing in the living room, and I've got some food preparation to attend to for tomorrow's 'Stone Soup' gathering at the lake. I'm making more chocolate chip cookies, a pineapple upside-down cake, celery sticks with peanut butter (some also with raisins), and we're taking a bag of marshmellows for roasting, hot dogs and buns for grilling and some juice boxes. I'm also washing our bedding today, and the comforter is almost done washing right now.

When I was buying the necessary ingredients for these items at the commissary the other day, an elderly man was having trouble finding some pimiento cheese spread. I wasn't trying to be nosy, but he and the grocer helping him were looking in the wrong spot entirely, so I offered my help. As it turns out, the spread wasn't in the dairy cases (where they were looking), but it also wasn't in the condiment aisle (where I thought it would be). I combed almost every aisle of the store looking for it myself, trying to help the poor man. He needed it because his wife had put it on the list, and he really hated to return home without it. Just as I was apologizing to the man at the front of the store for my not finding it, I spotted a tub - in the small refrigerator of sandwiches available for sale by the register! I ran and grabbed it for him, and he thanked me while we laughed. I had time to spare, and it was worth it for that man.

Philip is off this weekend. His schedule rotates, but it landed just perfectly for this Memorial Day weekend, so he's off Friday-Sunday. Not only that, his supervisor also gave him Monday off (the flight was going to be over-manned, so they could spare him). I'm tickled about that, and we already started our lovely weekend yesterday. Just before coming in last night, we lined our driveway with all our little flags, so now we are truly ready for the holiday and we LOOK it. ;-)

I'd better get going now and switch out the comforter. Happy Saturday, folks!
navygreen: (Rain)
The rain showers that we had this morning have made it much colder today, and I just had to turn the heat up a little to compensate for it. Brrr!

It's pizza night for dinner, and the boys are tumbling on an extra blanket on the floor while they wait for it to cook. Silly boys. The whole family had massive tickling sessions all afternoon while watching Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire for the umpteenth time. Jack is such a squealer when he's tickled - he sounds like a baby pig. Finally, we all smooshed under one blanket on the couch together, and that was a nice time.

I've going to clean off my desk some while the pizza's cooking, and then finish up after we eat. The error in our tax return will result in some money coming our way in 2-3 months... but only if I ever get this correction form finished and mailed in! (We got our original tax return over 5 weeks ago now, and I still haven't done this part.) Once I'm done with that, I'll scrapbook for a little while as my 'reward.' Maybe even watch a movie...

I watched The Prince & Me 2: The Royal Wedding a couple of nights ago. It was an okay storyline, but it just wasn't the same without Julia Stiles in the lead female role. I figured as much when I put it on my Netflix queue, but I still wanted to give it a try for the eye-candy reason alone: Luke Mably. And it was worth watching for the sake of watching him. ;-) I also watched Must Love Dogs that night, and it was good. I love John Cusack anyway, but I especially love movies where he's the 'Lloyd-Dobler-good-boyfriend' type.

Rainy HP.

I just returned from my 5th viewing of Goblet of Fire, and the theatre was packed this time as well. This makes me very happy - I love seeing that people are loving these movies so much! :-)

It was pouring down rain and lightning when I got out of the theatre. Naturally, I didn't take an umbrella inside with me, but I was wearing my Pooh® fleece pullover, and it has a hood.

It rained some, as predicted. I'm very glad that I'd listened to the weather reports and knew that it was a possibility. To avoid the wet and mushy mess, we all raked up the leaves in the backyard yesterday afternoon. I raked piles all over the yard, and af_cop Philip and A.J. bagged them. Jack ran around in circles, trying to "help" us all - ha ha. We got eight full bags done, and we finished in about 45 minutes. I had thought it would take much longer actually, but with such great teamwork, it was a snap. And with the rain today, I am extra pleased to not have wet, mushy leaves to get up. :-)

starrchld Annie came over last night, and we made little_liebchen Karyn's apple dumplings. It was time-consuming, and we poked fun at each other's dough-rolling methods, but the end result was so good! These dumplings were different than what I'd had before - they cooked in their own gooey, sugary liquid, and the dough was more like a bread when they were done, rather than just a plain crust. We added cinnamon to the recipe as we made it, and they were just so yummy - but so rich and so filling! We were STUFFED afterwards.

We also scrapbooked. Annie got a page done, and I finished sorting the two bags of photos I've had pulled out for a couple of weeks now. I really minimized my photos and what I intend to actually use. I had about 50 pictures or so of building the swingset, for example, but I've narrowed it down to only 12 pictures now, and that's an amount that I can get on a 2-page spread. We watched The Prince & Me while we worked. I'd seen it before, but Annie hadn't, and she really liked it. :-)

Tuck has finally figured out the new litterbox - huzzah! I was beginning to think we'd have to isolate him forever, but this morning I found that he'd finally done three pees in the box. I loved and loved on him, gave him kitty treats and gave him a special pouch of wet food - Tuckster!

I'm off to run a few errands with the boys while Philip sleeps. He's working at Runza this afternoon/tonight to cover for Ryan, his manager. Ryan's wife Sarah was in labor and at the hospital last night, so I'm sure a new little person has or will be gracing this world shortly. Too bad the baby couldn't wait another day - November the 13th is a much better day. ;-D
navygreen: (Rain)
It's a rainy morning. It's the best kind of rainy morning, though - just a nice, light rain. The kind where you only have to use your wiper about once a minute or so.

I love rain.

A.J. wore a windjacket today so that he wouldn't have to carry an umbrella. I had just woken Jack up, so all he had managed to do was put on fresh clean underwear. Rather than get dressed quickly to take A.J. to school, Jack wanted to wear just his new windjacket... so he did. Silly boy! The school has finally paved a new lane in which to drop off our schoolkids, so A.J. doesn't have to trudge through the mud anymore before the start of class.

I slept weird last night. Woke up about 10 times. I decided to finally move back over to my own "side" of the bed again, now that I need to get used to being over there, but I just didn't like it anymore. Not only that, but my side is so far away from the alarm clock in the morning - those extra four beeps it was allowed to emit before I could reach it were DEAFENING!
navygreen: (Candy squirrel)
Crazy weather today, folks. I was glad to have run all the errands and played outside this morning because it was very cool and quite overcast - setting the day up for perfect afternoon naps. As I was finishing up at the computer by noon, the thunder was coming pretty quick. By the time I snuggled under the covers for a nap, it was raining pretty hard. When the alarm went off to wake me up, it was bright and sunshine-y again!

Crazy.

As for the seasons, my pal minivan_mom Jamie is dying for fall to arrive. On the other hand, I talked to my friend Ann on the phone this morning, and she isn't yet ready to let go of summer. As for me, I'm certainly ready for it to "look" like fall, but I'm not entirely sure I'm wanting the cooler temperatures just yet. I'm perfectly happy right now with fall coming in slowly. :-)

Yesterday morning when we left to drop Jack off at preschool, there was an orange-colored cat walking along the top of our courtyard fence. It looked pretty thin, and it mewed at me in a scared tone. Jack continued to buckle into his carseat, and I ran back in the house and filled a dish with kitty kibble and placed it under the carport dividing wall. Hours later, all I could see that had changed was that the food was then covered with ants. This morning, however, the food dish was completely empty - not ONE tiny morsel remained. Hmmm...

We dropped off the invitations with A.J.'s teacher promptly at 11am and then came straight back home. As I was driving down 34th street, a little weiner dog was walking slowly in the middle of the road. I came to a full stop and allowed it time to get to one side or the other, but it just wasn't interested in going anywhere. I thought it might be a dog I knew, so I turned on my hazard lights, got out of the car and called to it. As soon as I opened the door, though, the little dog sped off down Grand Forks avenue. I kept calling it, but all it did was bark and run further away every time I tried to speak to it, so I finally just got back in the car and came the last few blocks home. I looked up the folks in the phone book and called them to let them know, but there was no answer, so I left messages. :-/

And that's about when it started raining, too. A full-circle post, this is! :-D

There's nothing quite like an impromptu game of 'Ring Around the Rosies' in the afternoon rain...

Rain, rain, rain-y rain.

I'd really like a nice, hard rain right about now. Can you hear me, God? That is what I'd really like.

It's been sprinkling off and on all morning, and there was enough wet spots on the driveway this morning to indicate that there might have been a small bit of precipitation overnight. Then again, it could have just been 5 minutes of the big, fat ploppy drops that I drove through to drop the boys off at VBS this morning, too.

Incidentally, I forgot and left my sprinkler on the garden all night long. You certainly can't tell by the GARDEN that I would like some rain.

I bought a Coke this morning as I was filling up the car with gas. It has tasted funny to me all morning, but I only just seconds ago noticed why: it is Coke with LIME. Hrm. That's certainly NOT what I would have picked out if I had been paying attention.

Ah, well. It's wet, right? *takes another sip*

Rainy days.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JENNA!

I hope that the [livejournal.com profile] irishphoenix711 is flying high today! :-)

It is storming today. Off and on, though more 'on' than 'off.' I presume I will not get the other half of the garden weeded this afternoon. That works out well, I suppose, as I my blister is halfway gone now, and maybe by tomorrow the rest of it will have disappeared.

I'm trying to decide on dinner for tonight. Due to the weather, I'm desiring a nice bowl of chicken soup, but I don't have any of the things to make it, and I'd really just rather have hetterrific Heather's anyway. Chili sounds good too, but whereas I usually enjoy chili leftovers more than the first run, I'm thinking I won't be in the mood for it at all tomorrow. Chicken gumbo sounds fantastic, but I really don't want to head out in this storm to get the few ingredients that I need for it... Ah, decisions.

The boys entertaining themselves inside well, though. Jack has taken to computer games finally (before, he never had the patience or reserve in himself to sit still and try to figure out the games), and A.J. has been smashing his way steadily through 'Tetris Attack' on the GameBoy. Every afternoon lately, I've felt very obligated to take the boys outside for hours at a time. It's still raining now, so I'm going to take advantage of this time and try to scrapbook a little bit. (Hopefully, I'll have a new page to show you soon, [livejournal.com profile] redwink.)

Jack plays some SNOOD on the computer.
navygreen: (Rain)
Monstrously-sized ping-y balls of hail are smattering my house at this very moment.

Ping! Ping-y-ding! Pung! Ping!

The boys are entranced. I keep hearing gleeful and impressed shouts of, "Whoa!" from the living room.

*goes to see*
