15 Years.

Thursday was the date of our first date... fifteen years ago. We went to see Casper, and Philip's parents picked me up and dropped me off (we were both just 15, you see). A few months later, for my sweet 16th birthday in November (at a roller skating rink!), Philip gave me the VHS copy of the movie, and I cried. :-)

One more from the night. )

We don't celebrate these dates or anything, but it's ingrained as a part of me - I don't forget them, not ever. When I remembered it this year, it was a mind-trip: we're both now thirty years old, so we've now spent half our lives together.

Wow.

Philip returns home today. He's been gone since last Thursday morning, having traveled to West Virginia to spend some time with his dad and the rest of his family. He drove down to Bismarck, then flew from there into Pittsburgh with just one stopover. His return today will be much lengthier, however: he has three layovers, and he won't be coming in until about 10pm or so (versus the 4pm he arrived there last week).

You may remember that his dad has cancer and is very sick. In addition, his Grandpa (in his 90s) went into the hospital the day before he arrived back home, too. He's texted during the day but called home for an hour or so each night to talk with all of us, and I think the visit has been good for him (well, as good as it can be under those sadder circumstances). He also got to meet up with his life-long best friend and finally see his new twin boys (born in October). I'm ready to see those pictures!

I know he's bringing home some little things. He's got some special candies for the boys, and I think he found the rest of the state quarters we needed in his dad's old change jar. But he surprised me one day with a text, saying only this: "Got your cookie cutters"

Huh? I didn't know what he was talking about at first. But he knew that my neighbor had asked me to make a cake for her baby shower, and we've also had recent discussions about my dismal lack of cookie cutters (ie. having to sub ice cream cones for hearts!), so he took it upon himself to go to a craft store back home that we don't have here (A.C. Moore) and find me all kinds of nifty baby-themed cookie cutters!

Also, we've both been chomping at the bit to get back to watching The Office together. See, after watching all the commercials about the baby episode during the Olympics, we finally decided to give it a go. Of course, we already know that Pam and Jim will get married (I remember those commercials a good while back), and we know they're going to have a baby... but we still dived right in. Except that we were both hating Season One when we started. Yikes, but those first few episodes are so bad; I'm surprised the show was picked up, to be honest. We struggled through, thinking tons of our friends just couldn't be so horridly wrong about the show, and I'm glad we did. Season Two was great, just wonderful. We stayed up until almost 3am the morning he left (and he woke at 6am to get ready for his flights) just to finish up the Season. And, even though we know they'll eventually get together, that was still quite a cliffhanger!

It was very, very tempting the first two days he was gone to watch just an episode or two. Philip even told me to go ahead. But I wanted to wait for him, and I'm glad I have. We'll be furiously watching it over the weekend, I'm sure, trying to get through at least Season Three before he goes back to work. :-)

[livejournal.com profile] lilmissriss called me a few days ago to let me know that her dog, Nanuk, had run away from the family that is watching her while her husband is deployed and she's out of state. Nanuk is their only dog, and Philip has been actively searching for her these past several days. He's been to the house several times, calling for her, and hoping she would have tried to travel back home, but no luck. He's also gone to the Humane Society to search among the 'found' dogs (and he said that was heartbreaking).

But Nanuk is still missing.

Marissa contacted the local news station, and they agreed to run a feature on the missing dog. Marissa gave them our information, and for the past two days, we have had nonstop calls from the news station, reporters, tech guys, and more. Philip printed pictures for the reporter to display and use of Nanuk, and the website is sporting a family photograph I took for them last spring. The story aired last night. Some links for you:

As you can see, they've butchered Philip's name, and they also videotaped him in a few moments that he didn't realize (the angle taken from his sunglasses was while the cameraman had the equipment in his lap - sneaky!). As of this afternoon, I've gotten a few phone calls, but nothing that sounds terribly promising. Hopefully, Nanuk will turn up soon!

So, later this afternoon, Philip was in the master bathroom, and I was prancing around the bedroom in my t-shirt and panties. I have no clue why I hadn't put my jeans back on, except that I might've, maybe, been pondering taking a quick nap. Anyway. Philip looks at me kinda funny and says, "Do you know that your panties are on inside-out?"

And I look down. And they are. And they have been for the whole day, even as I attached a pantyliner to them.

And I feel goofy and clueless, but I'm totally, "Meh. I'm not going to bother fixing it back now. I'll leave 'em."

---

Fast-forward about three hours, and Philip has been lounging in a t-shirt and sleep pants. He goes off to pee, and comes back into the office almost immediately. "Wow, I've been going criss-cross!" he says. I look up and see that for the past few hours, he's had his sleep pants on backwards! He only noticed as he tried to go pee!

LOL!

We're a matching set, we are. We call ourselves "Criss-Cross" and "Flip-Flop." :-)

I just pulled a Devil's Food cake out of the oven. I already made homemade Buttercream frosting for it, and I will frost it as soon as it cools. I've been craving this combo for weeks now, and it will be dessert for tonight.

In other news, I called Philip around noon, and this conversation followed:

Me: Hey, have you eaten your lunch yet?
Him: Yep, why?
Me: Well, I was just wondering if you could bring your lunch dishes home?
Him: Right now??
Me: Yes. Because I just unloaded the dishwasher from last night, and I'm doing another load right now with lunch and cake dishes, and I want to put your leftover dishes in there.
Him: (laughs) Hmmm.
Me: Because making fried chicken for supper makes a LOT of dishes in itself.
Him: (laughs more) I see.
Me: So... yes?
Him: I'd love to, but... I can't. I wish I could for you.
Me: (sighs because I knew that before I called, but I wanted to call anyway) Yeah, I know.
Him: (smiling in his voice) Sorry, honey!
Me: Well, since you're no help at all, I'm gonna finish up this load and get it washing then.
Him: Okey doke.
Me: I'll talk to you later. Love you!
Him: Love you too.

He emailed me (just as randomly as I originally called him) a few minutes ago to tell me how happy he had been to hear my voice today and how beautiful I looked last night (I wore a jammie that he picked out and that I hadn't worn in many months). I emailed him back, asking if he would be interested in "cake" tonight as well.

He emailed back an enthusiastic reply (*such* a guy!), and he also requested chocolate syrup with his "cake."

Goodness. *shakes head* I think we're in for a sticky night, but he promises he'll clean it all up. ;-)

This is probably my new favorite picture of Philip and little John. Before, this picture had held that spot, but I snapped this new one a few weeks ago while we were babysitting for Heather.

The different ways that Philip and I parent can be so amusing sometimes.

The boys wanted to go to the park after school. I was at a doctor's appointment, but if I had been home, I would have allowed them to go to the park (about three houses away), but I would've given them a whistle and also informed them that I would whistle for them to come home later on. (The park is about three houses away, I should add, but it's not in view.)

But when I got home, Philip did mention that the boys were at the park (I was only just barely in the door, else I would've asked), and I didn't think to question what rules he might've given them as he granted them permission. But just now? I heard this:

*blip, beep*
Jack: Dad?
Philip: Yeah, buddy?
Jack: A.J. just told me to shut up.
Philip: That's not something you need to call me about, bud.
*blip, beep*

So yes, he gave them walkie-talkies for communication. I love it. How come I never think of this stuff?!

He came home from work just a few minutes ago, and he's already dressed and heading back out for a craving. What is the craving, you ask? Cheese. Specifically, he wants those little pre-cut cubes of cheddar cheese, and he likes the store brand.

I ate a few cubes of cheese a couple of nights ago at bedtime, and he snacked on them with me. I noticed him eating them again after that. Then last night, I saw him grab a string cheese. I guess I got him hooked on cheese lately, but he said that the string cheese last night wasn't nearly as good. He explained to me as he tied his shoes just now that the craving for cubed cheese was so strong that he almost went out to buy some earlier today after his testing.

Cheese. Silly boy. ;-)

I want...

Shortly before turning in for bed last night, I received an email from Philip while he was at work. He said this:
"I want sex in the morning. ;)"

Now, I "indulge" him quite often in this request, but I don't like it too much. He gets home around 6am, so it's right in the middle of my sleep. And it usually keeps me awake afterwards, when I could be getting another hour or more of sleep before waking up to take A.J. to school. So I emailed him back this reply:
"i want a million dollars."

Imagine my surprise when I found this on my desk this morning:

1 Million Dollars )

I knew these things existed, but I'm surprised that he was able to find/get one and bring it home with him this morning. Goofy guy!

*evil grin*

I picked up the phone and dialed Philip at work. As the phone was ringing, I noticed the time - 12:00am exactly. He answered in the Control Center, and I wished him a Happy Birthday. We talked for a few minutes, and then I let him go so that he could give his full attention to an exercise going on.

...

Except that I called the desk then - at 12:04am. An "Airman Hickey" answered the phone, and I explained to him who I was, and that I was calling to inform the flight of Philip's 27th birthday. I gave him my express permission to announce the occasion to any and all flight members, and that any embarrassing displays would be most welcomed.

At 12:06am - just now - the phone rang here. I picked it up, and Philip jokingly told me how much he hates me for telling the flight it's his birthday. Of course, I denied doing such a thing, but he knows me better. I gave in and asked what had happened in just two short minutes, and he told me that Hickey came across the radio for all stations, announcing to all posts that it was the Flight Chief's birthday and that everyone needed to be advised.

I love it. :-D

This morning Philip helped me in the garden for almost two hours today. He doesn't love the garden like I do, but he helped me anyway.

I received a phone call from the church while we were working, and he patiently stayed outside in the hot, hot sun with me - even though I wasn't doing much more than standing around.

In fact, while he was waiting, he carved a heart in our lone tree in the yard with the knife he'd been using in the garden. It reads, "I love you," and it features a heart with "PC + NC."

For lunch, he went to La Mesa without complaint because it was just about the only restaurant that sounded good to me (and we had no food at home).

Afterwards, he went grocery-shopping with me. I know he doesn't generallly like shopping for groceries, but he didn't complain how long it was taking even once (we had a lot to buy, having used up ALL of our food before we left for vacation).

After he returned home from the restaurant tonight, he brought me leftover Vegetable Cheese soup. He knows I really like it, and he brought me two bowls.

And at this very moment, he is out buying some ranch dip from the store so that I can snack on some green pepper strips later tonight.

He wore a new t-shirt today that we bought yesterday while shopping, and it really is appropriate: he truly *is* SUPERMAN.
