Moving in, Part 1.
Jan. 14th, 2007 07:59 pmRemember that we moved in November? November 3rd, to be exact. And then I sorta slipped out of LiveJournal for a while, what with all the unpacking, painting and organizing. But I did take pictures! Err... even if they didn't get posted in a "timely fashion."
I intended to edit/process some of the pictures, but I realize now that if I actually take the time to do that, I'll never get through them. So I'm just posting them all as is - take it or leave it. And I'll put small captions under the photos, but there won't be a lot of actual story to go along with them.
And - obviously - this will be in a few parts. *grin*
( Part the First. )
And because I now have them, here are the dimensions in our new house:
Garage: 11'-10" x 27'-5"
Patio: 12' x 12'
Family Room: 12' x 12'-2"
Living Room: 12'- x 14'
Dining Room: 9'-1" x 11'-1"
Kitchen: 8'-1" x 9'-7"
Utility Room: 5' x 7'-9"
Office: 9'-1" x 10'-1"
A.J.'s Room: 9'-1" x 11'-3"
Jack's Room: 10'-1" x 14'
Master Bedroom: 11'-3" x 14'
We have three storage closets in our entry, and there aren't dimensions listed for these (at least, not on the floorplan I have), so I'm unsure of their sizes. There are two linen closets in the hallway, as well as two full baths (one is off the side of our master bedroom). And Philip and I each have our own closet in the master bedroom as well. In addition to the patio, there's a shed, as well as a 'service area' - with dimensions of 8'-1" x 4'-9".
In other words, we have a LOT more space than we did. :-D

Mail and Christmas cards.
Dec. 4th, 2006 07:07 pmWell, at current count, 84 cards have gone out. I've been working hard since last night. *wipes brow*
I'm really starting to worry about our mail situation, though. Last week, we received one circular ad in our old mailbox (which we've still been checking daily), but that was it. But I've not received ONE thing that has a forwarding sticker on it, and we've been at this address for one month and one day now. Shouldn't I have had something by now? I'm really going to be mad at the post office if things are as I fear - that we have no forward order on record, as they already charged my credit card for the change of address (I did it online, and they use a card to verify that you're really you).
But I'm thinking that's the case, as poor
Gret received her card to us BACK in the mail today, saying there was no forward order.
*sigh*
In MUCH happier news, we did receive three Christmas cards in the mail at our new house today - yay! One from
catharin, one from
tylerbaby and a surprise one from
kpnut. I wish you could all could see the card and special note that Kelly sent, as it's so neat, and just reading everything really made me feel "connected" to the card. Thank you all so much, and your cards are already proudly displayed on the 'Card Wall.'

Ninety-eight percent.
Dec. 2nd, 2006 10:10 pmThe office is 98% unpacked. I say 98% because the only things left now are bill stubs and such that have come in the mail in the past month and need to be filed away, yet they are still on my desk.
And I need my desk clear so that I can fully devote it to Christmas cards.
There's two picture frames that need to be hung on the wall, but I need new frames first, as the current frames are over 30 years old, and they're falling apart. And I've got the contents of the last bathroom box on my bed, waiting to be put away (which is where I'm stuck, as we don't have bathroom drawers here - we have cabinets instead).
But that's it. Then the house will be fully, 100% unpacked. Even now, there are no boxes left anywhere. I'm really feeling all this new space, and it's lovely!

Rambling at the end of the night.
Nov. 20th, 2006 11:18 pmI'm not sure I've posted enough today. *thinks*
Philip did the closing inspection on our old house this morning while I was at the doctor's office. We're officially out of that house, and now the entire "Larson Loop" is completely vacated. It's kinda sad to think about, actually. This new house is so much nicer, but I will miss our tree. It held Philip's ribbon for ten months, and it also has the sweet carving he made me this past summer. *sniffles*
I need to do dishes from the misadventure that was dinner tonight, as well as the Chinese take-out that saved the day. I need someone to drag me to the kitchen, I think.
Our main TV died today. This really affects my life an astonishingly small amount, but the testosterone-fueled beings in the house act as if a body part has been cut off. Well, we think it died, or that it is dying. It might be just the picture tube, but those things usually cost as much as a new TV by themselves. We've had this television since Philip and I got married, so I guess it was time for it to give out. It will be a few months before we can replace it, so I think Philip will bring the smaller TV out of our bedroom for use in the living room in the meantime.
I think there's pictures I need to be putting up, but I keep hoping that they'll post themselves...

Nov. 11th, 2006 10:54 pmSomeone please come rub my feet. They hurt so bad, and they're only getting worse every day, despite my wearing shoes from 7am until after midnight (and I'm usually a barefoot kind of gal). They just throb when I stop moving, whether it's sitting down for a quick bite to eat in between unpacking or to ride somewhere in the car. And last night, I was literally brought to tears by the intense pain as soon as I laid down in bed. Yes, it definitely hurts the most when I stop moving.
My poor feet. :-(

Move over, Sonic!
Nov. 10th, 2006 11:52 pmI'm beat.
The living room was completely unpacked last night. A.J.'s room was done early this evening, and now Jack's room is nearing completion. I'll have to sort through a few more things tomorrow afternoon once I'm home from work, and then I can call his done. It's almost midnight now, and I had to get my sleepy boys into bed!
I'm about to follow, too. Tomorrow morning is 'Christmas Crafts with Mom' at Jack's preschool, and then A.J. has drama practice (actually it's the dress rehearsal for Sunday's performances at the church). I'll be working from 11-2pm, and then I'll be unpacking some more. Tomorrow I hope to work on the kitchen and dining rooms. My real interest is in getting my office back into shape, but I realize that this room is lowest on the priority totem pole in regards to the entire family's best living spaces... so I'm diligently going through the rest of the rooms first.
Heather popped by after she got off work early this evening, and she brought us all a yummy dinner from Sonic. We chit-chatted for a while, and she gave me a much-needed break from the afternoon/evening's unpacking. It's hard to believe we'll be turning 55 on Monday. ;-)

A housewarming surprise.
Nov. 9th, 2006 04:41 pmAwwwww. :-)
My friend Ann and her kiddos just dropped by to see the new house, and they brought us a special housewarming surprise - our very first bird feeder! The boys will be so excited to see it when they get home, but they will be so bummed that they missed getting to show Rudi and Ty the new yard (they are at their dentist check-ups right now). Ann gushed all over the house - she seemed as excited as me! The movers were finishing up as they arrived, and they brought in the last few boxes while I was showing Ann around.
It was sweet of them, and they want to come back as soon as everything is unpacked to play properly. :-)

Wednesday's post.
Nov. 8th, 2006 11:36 pmCox called early this morning and offered me a couple of appointments today to fix the cable and internet, but I couldn’t take any of them. I had to be at the old house while the movers were packing up our things instead. I was so sad.
Philip is gone to the squadron at the moment to help find something on a disk, and he took the cell phone with him. The phone post number is programmed into the cell phone, otherwise I’d make a phone post right now. I figure I’ll write this up tonight and just post it whenever I next can.
(I hate to say tomorrow – Thursday – else I jinx the next appointment with Cox that we have!)
The packers were very efficient earlier today. I pulled into the drive at 8:20am to meet them for our 8:30 appointment, and the two ladies were already there, waiting at the front door. I let them in, and they got right to work. They were done packing the entire house in five hours! Of course, they admitted that it would have taken them longer, but for the fact that I’d already moved over all our closet contents, the food stuffs and about half of the dishes, as well as other miscellaneous shelf and bookcase items.
While the ladies took their lunch hour, I picked up Jack from preschool and we had Chinese buffet for lunch. I miss our ‘fun’ lunches while I’m working over the lunch shift now, so it was a nice interlude to the day. When we returned to the house, the packers finished things up for another hour, and Jack and I raked leaves in the yard while they worked. It was a gorgeous afternoon – about 73° - and we took full advantage of that good time outside.
Philip hung a few things in the house this evening, including the extra cabinet that we removed from the laundry room. Instead, he mounted it as an extra cabinet in our new dining room, and I’m going to use it as a pantry of sorts. He also installed the lamps on either side of our bed, and I’m loving having light in the room. There was no light fixture in the master bedroom at all, but now we have lamps mounted above the bed that are turned into the light switch on the wall by the entry of the room. We also adjusted shelving in a few of the cabinets to better suit our belongings.
It’s coming together as well as it can without the rest of our household goods. I’m happy about that.
As for general ‘new house’ enthusiasm, the response has been a bit… lackluster, I guess. I was a little sad that there wasn’t really any rejoicing with us when we finally – finally! – received the keys to the new house on Friday night (just a phone call would have been nice, even). And there really hasn’t been many inquiries as to how things are going or whether we’d like help for anything since we started moving things in, and it’s been almost a week now. I realize that it’s not like we bought this home or anything, but it’s still a real home to us, and we were excited about the move regardless. :-/
As for the painting, Philip and I did it largely ourselves. We got the coat of dark pink primer up on Friday night, and we were shocked at exactly how much it resembled Pepto Bismol® – yikes! Ryan, Brett and Chris surprised us by popping over at 11:30pm on Saturday night to help – they wanted Philip to hurry up and get the first coat or red paint done so he could play X-Box with them, so they decided to lend their services and “get’r done” faster. (Ryan actually says that in true ‘Larry the Cable Guy’ fashion all the time – heehee.) The next day, Philip and I painted on the second coat of red paint on one wall, and then Herb came over and helped me finish the second wall. It looks great now, and I’m really pleased.
Annie and the baby came over to visit for a few hours on Monday. I’d not expected her to come so soon, having just gotten out of the hospital only the day before, but I’m glad she did. Douglas liked the nice outside air, too. Heather stopped by for a minute or two to give Annie something while she was here.
But for tonight, I’ve got nothing really left to do. We were going to hang up the DVD racks in the closet, but the hardware for them was accidentally packed earlier, so we’ll have to wait until our things arrive tomorrow to begin doing that kind of stuff, and by then, I’m sure we’ll be too busy arranging actual furniture to worry about DVDs. And for the first time ever when we’ve moved to a new place, I’m not immediately sure of where I want things like pictures and décor to hang… so I guess I’ll just take it a bit slower, to be sure of where I want things before I put holes in the wall.
It’ll be a busy weekend, I’m sure, and I’ll be glad for the next week to arrive – hopefully with most of the unpacking behind me. :-)

Monday things.
Nov. 6th, 2006 10:22 amIt's a Monday.
My period started this morning. That's fun times when I'm trying to both work and move. I'm so lucky to be a girl, I really am.
Surprisingly, I didn't forget any essentials when trying to bring over things for us to sleep in the new house last night. The night went fine, and I was able to get everyone up and ready this morning with no problems. I got A.J. off to school early, but I had some lag time in between taking him and taking Jack. The preschool had a field trip to Fontanelle Forest this morning from 10:30-12:00, and I have to work at 11:00am. So my pal Jamie was going to take him along with her son Noah on the field trip, and I was at her house right at 10:00 on the dot.
But Noah is sick, and she'd been calling the old house trying to reach me this morning to tell me that (and we only have the cell phone with us at the new one). I asked her to call the preschool quickly for me as I raced Jack back to the school so that he could ride with someone else... but when we pulled in the parking lot at 10:07, everyone was already gone. Jack is so heartbroken, but there's nothing else I can do to get him on that trip. :-(
But we're at the old house for the moment, and he's picking out a few more toys to take with him over to the new house. I'm packing him a lunch so that he can serve himself when he gets hungry, and Philip will be waking up (the alarm is set) at 1:00pm so he'll be ready when the cable guy arrives to hook everything up. I'll be home at 2:00, and I'm sure Jack will be ready to head outside and play by then, plus A.J. will be home in the next hour as well.
By tonight, I should have internet in my new house!

More moving progress.
Nov. 5th, 2006 04:00 pmWe're sleeping in the new house tonight. Ryan helped Philip move our bed over this morning, and the boys have their sleeping bags (they've been used partially for "night naps" the last two nights anyway). It makes more sense to stay at the new house in our bed because Philip is working for the military tonight and will need to be snoozing tomorrow until Cox shows up at the new house to hook up our cable/phone/internet.
Plus the new house is just so nice!
After I take Philip to work this afternoon, the boys and I will begin bringing over our kitchen stuffs. I brought over a few things last night and made dinner in the new house while we took a break between priming and painting the living room, but I need to get the rest of our food and dishes over there.
And A.J.'s closet stuff is all fully moved over now. His closet is much bigger and it is SO much nicer!

The stresses of the moment.
Nov. 3rd, 2006 05:04 pmSome things:
1. We just got the keys to the new house, and I've signed the paperwork. The boys and I are going to head back over there and begin masking off for painting, but we had to come home to get toilet paper, the DustBustr®, a radio and a few toys.
2. No babies born today. Our manager at Runza - Ryan - and his wife are expecting twins, and we'd had to both rush off to work this morning to cover for what turned out to be a false alarm for the labor.
3.
Annie is in the hospital. Her tests came back showing an even larger decrease in liver function, and she was called back in urgently this morning and has been admitted. She'll be there overnight, at least, and they will do more procedures/tests tomorrow. I'm not sure when she'll know more just yet. Keep her in your prayers, as Douglas just turned four weeks old yesterday, and they won't allow him to up there with her just yet, so she's pumping and sending milk home for him at the moment, but I'm sure she's missing him fiercely. :-(

Moving the mulch.
Oct. 27th, 2006 03:06 pmI did finish Philip's costume last night/this morning, and it looks okay. It took FOREVER, so I'm really not optimistic about my own. However, A.J.'s should take a considerable less amount of time, and I started his this morning and will continue to work on it tonight.
It's gorgeous outside right now (despite the dreary-looking start this morning), so I need to get outside and take advantage of the cool, clear weather to dig up more mulch from the garden. I think Jack's going to come outside with me, and we'll probably be working still when A.J. gets home.
Speaking of,
Heather picked up A.J. from school this afternoon, and she was taking his somewhere to do something before she brings him home. She asked me if she could have him earlier in the week, and I didn't mind, of course. I don't know what they're up to, but I'm sure he'll be home before too terribly long.
We should be taking keys to the new house next Wednesday, November 1st. I'm excited, and I'm ready to get in there and start painting. The movers will be here to pack our things the following week (Nov. 8th), and they'll be unloading us at the new house on the 9th. We could have had them come on the 1st as well, but I want some time to paint without household goods in the way. I just think it will be easier that way. There's a TON of stuff to do between now and then - one of which, of course, is getting the mulch out of the garden... so I should get going! ;-)

There's a TON of stuff to do between now and then - one of which, of course, is getting the mulch out of the garden... so I should get going! ;-)
