I am so happy, and I have been so blessed. I have also been extremely spoiled this year! I am in awe of the promises that December kept to me, and I thank God with every breath for bringing such hope and happiness.

If you're curious, read on. If you're uninterested in the Christmas gifts, feel free to skip the rest of this post. :-)

A list I could never have dreamed! )

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. This new year feels very promising to me, and I wish such warm feelings for each and every one of you, my friends. Here's to 2008! *clinks*

Attention.

[livejournal.com profile] posthaste, I found a little something for you today. I'll mail it later next week. :-)
navygreen: (Darkwing Duck)
Christmas cards have continued to trickle in these past few days. Among those, we've received cards from [livejournal.com profile] kristchan, [livejournal.com profile] cateyes25, [livejournal.com profile] flopbrain, and [livejournal.com profile] _stacy. The card from Kris plays music and comes complete with a website (no, really!). The boys thought that was very cool.

But the card from [livejournal.com profile] _stacy came in a package that warned me not to open it without the boys. So we opened the package together, and each pulled out a soft, wrapped gift with his name on it. I opened the card (finding the spiffy picture of Mr. Cole on the envelope!), and I also found a trinket for myself: a Hermione LEGO® keychain! Inside each of the boys' packages, they found these:

Superhero capes!

Personalized superhero capes! What a cool idea! The boys were instantly in LOVE with them, and they put them on quickly. What followed next were several minutes of superhero mayhem, lots of yelling and running around, and several flicks of "Spidey hands."

Thank you so much, Stacy! What a FANTASTIC idea! :-)

More of the mayhem under here. )

I am so blessed. Can I just tell you how blessed I am?

On the fifth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me... the new LeAnn Rimes CD
On the sixth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me... a stainless steel, 1.5-quart pot with glass lid that strains itself.
On the seventh day of Christmas, my true love gave to me... Titanic on DVD.

I've been looking and looking for another small pot. I wanted one like the smallest one I had, for there are lots of times when I just need something little to heat up a single can of veggies. I've not had luck finding just that size, however; usually the perfect small pot only comes in a set with eleventy billion other pots and sizes. What a surprise for Philip to gift me with such a spiffy small pot today! And he went ahead and gave me tomorrow's gift as well, since he was afraid he might not be able to get out for shopping tomorrow - sweet. We've had Titanic on VHS for years (we bought it the night it came out, in fact!), but the tapes are old and worn (um... I've played them a LOT!). It is so nice to replace them with DVDs. And I *love* LeAnn Rimes and have most of her stuff. I swear, I sing "Nothing Better to Do" all the time lately!

And I forgot to include it before, but he also gifted me with two big, juicy pomegranates on one of the other days. Mmmmm!

While opening the packages of Christmas gifts from his parents to put under the tree, we found an unwrapped pair of snazzy Santa socks. I'm sure they're for me - socks!

And then this morning, a box was delivered while I was making pie. It came directly from PartyLite®, and it contained a selection of yummy candles:

- one dozen tealights in Cinnamon & Bayberry
- one dozen tealights in Holiday Spices
- one box of ScentPlus™ Square votives in French Vanilla
- Aroma Melts™/Tealight sampler, including six different scents (one melt and four tealights each)

We dumped out all the packing peanuts but found no note or slip in the box anywhere. Nothing was on the front tag, either. I've got an idea that [livejournal.com profile] happysmiles01 might be my secret Santa in this one... *wink*

We also received four Christmas cards today, including ones from [livejournal.com profile] 1grl_revolution, [livejournal.com profile] devi_pavarti, and [livejournal.com profile] posthaste. Thank you all!

... but now I do!

Yesterday, Philip brought in a package from the front stoop. It was from Amazon.com, and it was addressed to me. I was baking at the time, and he asked if he could open it (making sure he wouldn't ruin a surprise for himself if I'd ordered something). I told him to go ahead and open the box.

He did, and he pulled out a solid, dark green gift wrapped in cream ribbon. A notecard was attached to the ribbon, and he held it open for me to read (my hands were very sticky at the time). This is what I saw:

My eyes lit up as I read the very familiar lyrics, and I began singing in my head:

I can see me now on Christmas morning,
Creeping down the stairs.
Oh, what joy and what surprise
When I open up my eyes...

I asked him excitedly, "Is it from redwink Kelly?! From [livejournal.com profile] redwink? It must be! No one else would send me a gift with those lyrics on the gift tag! *squeee* Here, let me open it!"

I dried my hands, stopped for just a moment to take a picture of the gift with the note still attached, then tore into the box. And guess what I found inside?! )

Thanks so much! I began laughing as soon as I opened the box, and Philip came in the kitchen to see what was so amusing. Once he saw the gift, he admitted it was pretty perfect for me. That was so sweet of you!

Box o' Sox.

The doorbell rang this afternoon, and I opened the door to find a small brown box on my stoop. I picked it up, inspected it, and thought, "Whaaa???"

(I think in italics to myself, you see...)

I opened the box and was delighted to find all varieties and sorts of warm, cozy and super-soft socks inside! I scoured the box for some message or note and finally figured out my mysterious Mrs. Claus - none other than [livejournal.com profile] scarletharlot52! Thank you so much, girlie!

I really just can't believe it. An entire box of perfectly perfect socks. A Box o' Socks. And everyone knows, a good sock warms both the foot and heart. :-)

Thank you!

For the last 45 minutes, I've been wrapped up cozily in a soft and fuzzy prayer shawl that I received in the mail from [livejournal.com profile] mostcurious. She crocheted the shawl in the most gorgeous autumnal colors of burgundy, gold, teal and eggplant, and she included a sweet card in the box. Thank you so much, C!

My friends are too wonderful for words.

I've been thinking a lot lately. Probably moreso than is good for my little mind, but it's hard to turn it off sometimes, too.

In unrelated news, I'm now married to "an older man." Philip turned 28 on Tuesday, and for eight blissful weeks, I can taunt him with being so much older than me. He's still just as sexy, though - maybe even more than he was ten years ago. :-)

I worry about my tatted gifts sometimes. I don't mail them in the safest of ways - usually tucking them into an envelope with a small note of some sort. Occasionally I use a padded envelope if the piece is a larger one, but not often. But I really worry about them after I mail them because I'm so afraid that someone will think I've mailed cash or something (the pieces are very light, but they put a certain bit of... I don't know, soft-ish bulk in the shape of the envelope). And so I worry from the moment the piece leaves me until I hear from the recipient that it has arrived intact.

Big worries, small worries - that's me. As JCPenney says, "It's all inside."

Once again, you can be jealous of us because of the awesomeness of my Aunt Edith. :-)

We had a two boxes waiting for us this afternoon when we returned home from school. One was a birthday present for Jack, and the other was addressed to me. There were a ton of messages stamped all over the box, and it was hard to make heads or tails of anything. It was also covered in plastic (good, for it was raining), so I sliced open the plastic to pull out the paper inside. Honestly, I was wondering what I must've ordered and forgotten about, especially for being in such an odd-shaped box.

Imagine my pleasant surprise when I opened the card to find a unique piece of stationery - photographs of an overflowing peach tree and peaches all over countertops and in boxes. Inside the card, my Aunt Edith went on to tell me how overabundant the peach tree is this summer, and she included a poem about peaches for the boys. Inside the box? Gold! Well, golden peach jam, that is - fresh from the tree and made just this month. Peach jam! I'm so excited to try it! It looks like we might have toast or biscuits for dinner tonight! :-)

Jack's box held a gift from Uncle Chris and Aunt Amy, and we were all surprised to find that he received his very own digital camera! Not only that, but it is a Disney® Pirates of the Caribbean™ digicam - he can take 200 pictures with it at a time! I'll be sure to share some of his inaugural shots later on.

And I received a hefty envelope from my dear friend [livejournal.com profile] kpnut as well. She wrote me a lovely note, and inside the package was the spiffiest pen - it's bright orange, it has a nice, wide grip space, and it has my name engraved on the clip. Perfect for writing more letters to Kelly! Thanks so much, sweets!

Aaaaaaaannnnndddd, Mondays are always good for freebies. I think the post office stockpiles them and delivers them on Mondays just to make folks' days brighter. It certainly works for me! Here's the list of the freebies from this past week:

Listy stuff. )

So! What was in your mailbox today? :-)
navygreen: (Lazytown: mailbox)
I put a lot of mail lovin' in the post today. Keep an eye out, [livejournal.com profile] _stacy, [livejournal.com profile] lesliepear, and [livejournal.com profile] poohbaby. I also mailed a birthday gift to my nephew, but he won't see this anyway. ;-)

And speaking of mail, here's a freebie list for the last few days. Click. )
navygreen: (Boys: fall guys)
The boys received the package from you while Grammy was visiting, and I'm just now remembering to post. The LEGO shirt is a good size for A.J., and he was excited. Jack wore the LEGO socks the very next day, bouncing around the zoo's IMAX theater and all. He loves "crazy" socks, but it can be so hard to find them in boy-ish themes. Thanks so much!
navygreen: (Teeny Super Guy)
My babysitter backed out this morning for tonight. Tonight was to be my first meeting with the Shuttlebugs. I called for about an hour this afternoon, trying to find a substitute, and then I called for another 45 minutes later. I couldn't find anyone. I called the contact person for the group, but she said, "Absolutely not - no children allowed." She was very nice in saying it, and I understand her reasons, but I was so very disappointed to miss the meeting.

I had to get off the phone suddenly with her because my doorbell rang, and it's just as well - I had started to tear up, and I really didn't want my voice to betray me. It's so silly, really, but I don't guess I had realized how much I'd been looking forward to meeting this group for the past few weeks until I was faced with knowing I couldn't make the meeting. I'm happy with what I've made so far - I really am - but by the same token, I also feel very stifled, and I so anxiously want to learn more. This group only meets once a month, and the next meeting is the night before school starts up again, and I'm already afraid I won't be able to make it to that one, either. So in not making tonight's meeting, I really feel as if I'm putting a halt on progress for at least another two months. :-( And so I sniffled a little bit for a minute or two, wiped my eyes, and picked up the phone to call hetterrific Heather.

And she was just the ticket. We talked for almost two hours, and by the time I got off the phone, I felt much better about everything in general.

I walked out to the mailbox and received a much-needed pick-me-up there, too. After a slow weekend, I had a box chock full of goodies:

- sample of Monistat® Chafing gel
- Eat Better™ ring
- sample of Goody's® Cool Orange™ headache powder
- Whiskas® Purrfectly Fish + bonus cat treats
- my Slytherin earrings (which arrived in a cute, gold drawstring bag)

But the very best thing was a bright yellow envelope addressed to me from bigbrain61 Brian. He drew a little cartoon across the front of the envelope, and I giggled when I saw that he wrote 'Sealed with Awesomeness!' across the lick-and-seal in the back. Inside was a very cute Hallmark card (he cares enough to send the very best) of a turtle and a snail, and it was a "Hope you're back on your feet again soon" kind of card. He wrote a funny, sweet message inside as well, and he continued with more cartoons on the outside of the card, as well as adding "speaking bubbles" to each character. It made me laugh, smile and then smile more - the special smile of knowing that someone cared enough to go to such trouble.

And it arrived at the perfect time. As I've said before, I love the Bri. :-)

(Speaking of which, do you remember when that pic was taken, Brian? I have it in 'random' in my images, and not sorted by date as per the usual. And I can't find where I posted it in your journal, either...)

Goodies!

On Saturday, we received a sweet package from the lovely [livejournal.com profile] mix3d3m0ti0n5! She had hand-dyed "playsilks" for each of the boys in their favorite colors (orange for Jack, yellow for A.J.), and she made me a beautiful yellow-and-orange bracelet from her jewelry business. The playsilks are so neat, and Jack carted his around EVERYWHERE with him on Saturday, while A.J. read quietly under his on his bed. And my bracelet is GORGEOUS - there's nothing on her website like it, so I'll have to get a picture of it soon to show off the loveliness. She also wrote each of us our own special note with our gift, and I've saved them for scrapbooking.

Thank you so much, Anna! You are such a dear! :-)

There has been and will be lots of mail this week. Since I have a love affair with my mailbox, this is an especially good thing!

What has already come:

- a shiny mixed CD of cool songs from [livejournal.com profile] mostcurious
- a box containing 11 miniature Coca~Cola cars and trucks from [livejournal.com profile] mix3d3m0ti0n5
- a long and lovely penpal card from [livejournal.com profile] kpnut
- a bix box of goodies from my mom

What is still coming:

- a box of Hugs from [livejournal.com profile] amenquohi (thanks for the tip, [livejournal.com profile] sdaisyk!)
- a bookmark from [livejournal.com profile] dstroy
- an order from BookPlanet Book Club
- an order from Children's Book-of-the-Month Club

And because mail is reciprocal, I need to mail out the following tomorrow:

- a box to my mom
- a package to [livejournal.com profile] gardenmama
- pictures to Philip's mom

In the mail yesterday was a package containing two special presents from our dear [livejournal.com profile] mostcurious. I didn't let the boys open the gifts right away, as I wanted to make sure that it was okay to do it before the Big Day.

And it was. In fact, C could hardly contain her excitement as she waited for me to have the boys open their gifts.

And so tonight they did. )

So, once again, thank you so much for our special Christmas gifts! We will cherish these all winter!
navygreen: (Draco - share my pain)
Serious biz, I think my right hand is going to fall off. I've been sitting here for about two hours, labeling the backs of the pictures we picked up earlier today. I'm done now, but holy cow - owwie.

I've also kept the computer quite busy while I was working. [livejournal.com profile] hypnotiq and [livejournal.com profile] mionemione - be on the lookout for packages in the very near future! :-)
navygreen: (Yellow ribbon)
I received a letter from my dear friend heartrot Clayton a few days ago, and my heart was lifted to hear from him. He's in Iraq right now, and I have all the contents of a care package sitting in a box right next to my washer for him, but I wanted to make sure that the address I had was the correct one. Yesterday afternoon, I received a sweet message on my answering machine from his wife Bre, thanking me for remembering him right now (I'd emailed her to make sure everything in the package was good to mail). I'm going to make some fresh cookies tomorrow to stick in the box along with everything else, and then we'll get this off on Monday.

Such a special guy, he is. We have a unique friendship, and I really hope to meet him and his family one day.

I also spoke to another unique friend on the phone last night when bigbrain61 Brian called me. We've talked on the phone many, many times now, and each time is such fun. That's another dude I really hope to meet in person one day.

I love my LJ friends. And I love LJ correspondence. :-)

I received a surprise package in the mail from my friend [livejournal.com profile] cleddy today! She mailed me a package in December, while we were on vacation, but by the time we received it, the contents had been ripped open and were missing. I was so surprised to receive a second package today, along with a note: "I hope this makes it to you safely this time!"

She'd written on the other package that she'd seen this keychain, and it had immediately made her think of me. I couldn't figure out what it could be, but as soon as I opened today's package, I knew what she meant. I was grinning from ear-to-ear for the next ten minutes, I'm sure.

Thank you so much, sweetie! I love them both!

And a picture for the curious... )

The best part about getting surprises in the mail, whether it's a package, card, letter - anything, really - is that it means you are not alone. Someone was thinking of you at a special point in time, and that just makes the world feel a little bit cozier. :-)
navygreen: (Draco - banned books)
So I smoked Philip in the first round of our new trivia game. I beat him in the second game as well, but it was a separation of only one turn for that one. He's read the books too, just not as many times or with *quite* as much enthusiasm as I have. ;-)

I received my book in the mail today from [livejournal.com profile] yorkybar! I was so excited, and I was very happy to get it so soon - it only took a week, and that was from England! It is soooooo funny, just as I knew it would be. I've read [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda's "15 Minutes" on Jurassic Park, Titanic and - of course - Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Sorcerer's Philosopher's Stone. They are ALL fabulous, and I couldn't contain my laughter (though Philip and the boys kept giving me looks like I was deranged). I highly, highly recommend her book, especially if you've already loved her stuff in [livejournal.com profile] m15m. You won't regret it. Thank you again, Lizzy, for nabbing me a copy - you are the bestest! :-)

Philip and Ryan are in the living room playing X-Box, and I think I'm going to rearrange some things in the office. Our tax return is coming very soon, and with it, we plan to get another bookcase or two (though how much room I can make with rearranging will help us decide). We have board games out to WaZoo, and I've got to figure out a better place for them, as they are taking four entire shelves themselves! I've also got lots of new books needing homes:

And I intend to have more books very soon, so we need more space!

Welp, I'd better get back to clearing off my desk.
navygreen: (High)
*squeee*

A package is on the way to me from the UK! The lovely [livejournal.com profile] yorkybar has bought and mailed to me Movies in Fifteen Minutes, by cleolinda Cleolinda Jones - literary comedienne of LJ, due to her fame from [livejournal.com profile] m15m. I am so excited! The book is not yet available in the US, but she helped a gal out and picked one up for me.

I can't wait!
