What do I want to make for dinner?

My parents are coming for Christmas, and they should be arriving on Friday sometime. I want to become a "Nicole tornado" and clean the house, but the reality is that there's really not much to do in preparation for their arrival.

*twiddles thumbs*

I really should bake, though. I've got tons of cookie stuff, plus I bought ingredients for Puppy Chow and two Apple Blackberry Crumble Pies (I bet I know someone who would want the extra one!) But I'm just not too keen on actually getting everything out and making my kitchen all dirty.

Le sigh.

Three more Christmas cards came in the mail today, including one from [livejournal.com profile] happysmiles01. I also received a nifty Christmas e-card from [livejournal.com profile] scribeguy. Thanks, both of you!

We received a replacement package from HersheyGifts.com today. Er... I realize that I never wrote about the first package, eh? Well, my Aunt Edith surprised us with a huge box early last week from that company, and inside was a very large snowman cookie jar - only he was broken in about eight pieces! His head/top was intact, so I'd saved it, and I took pictures of the damage in case she needed them for a replacement to be sent out. She didn't, and they shipped us another one on Monday. It arrived today, though in more pieces than the first one had! But we have DOUBLE the chocolate candy that was inside the two snowmen (and it is a LOT!), and I have two perfectly cute snowman heads. I think I might use them as a pair of bookends - heehee.

My Draco icon cheers me up. It really does.

About that dinner...

Are you going to be getting a replacement replacement (ie: 3rd snowman)?

I don't think so. I think Aunt Edith is going to try to get something else or just get a refund at this point. I mean, the thing is packed really well, too - I don't know what the issue is with it getting totally smashed to bits before it arrives.

Hehehehe... it was VERY good! I warmed it up and added some cool whip... heaven on a plate, I must say!

Cool Whip?! You and Jack are twin weirdos! Ice cream is the *only* good complementary side.

Ice cream... I honestly didn't think of that...

It's the best! I eat ice cream with my blackberry cobbler, too.

You know, I would have put it on blackberry cobbler without thinking twice. I wonder why I didn't think of it this time?

Hehehe. It's a messy pie to begin with, but I'm sure it'd be a sight in the mail!

You should direct me toward some good baking recipies so I can bake/cook for Christmas. I get FOUR days off and I'm sure the cleaning of the apartment won't take all of the weekend and I don't have any ideas about what to cook for Christmas! I need your help!

Well, let's see. Here's the assorted things that will be made in my house in the next five days (gluttony, anyone?):

turkey
ham
barbecue brisket
mashed potatoes and gravy
pumpkin pie
chocolate chip cookies
fudge
caramel corn
peanut butter kiss cookies
divinity
apple spice drops
corn
cranberry sauce
stuffing
snickerdoodles
apple blackberry crumble pie
cornflake candy
green beans
scalloped potatoes
rolls
puppy chow

...

am I forgetting anything big??

*laughs* Wow, that IS a lot! Actually, most of that is already on my list, but I would love to cook with you sometime. You sound a lot like me when it comes to cooking! Only bad part is, I'm making all this stuff for just me and my roommate...I'll have so many left overs!

Yes, we need to get together for a cook-a-thon and bake-a-thon!

I'll take that extra pie! It sounds yummy. Or just the recipe, please? :)

Wow. Broken snowmen!?! That's sad. Are you going to try to get another replacement or just enjoy your bodiless heads?

I think that Aunt Edith is going to try for something else this time. I'll be sure to post about it, whatever happens next!

Local folks actually got their yesterday, which I thought was amazingly fast. So if you didn't get it today, I would expect it will arrive tommorow :)

Lots of pie is good! We usually make a dish that resides from our heritage in my family, give it a try :D

I just figure that between puppy chow, fudge, divinity, caramel corn, pumpkin pie, snickerdoodles, peanut butter kiss cookies, apple spice drops, chocolate chip cookies and cornflake candy, we've got enough sweets covered that I don't need TWO apple blackberry crumble pies. ;-)
