Tread cleanly.
Jan. 26th, 2008 12:59 pmI just spent twenty minutes cleaning out the tread on the bottom of both my work shoes and my winter clogs. Both have thick tread (to keep me from slipping), and that same thick tread picks up all kinds of ice melt, small rocks and dirt. In addition, my work shoes had bits of lettuce, french fry, and other assorted probably-food items stuck in the tread.
This is all from only six weeks of wear, as Philip bought me both of these pairs of shoes in early December. I suppose this build-up wouldn't yet be enough to bug many people, but bugging me it was. I used water, a tub scrubber and a Pampered Chef® nylon scraper to get out the little pieces in the treads. Now they both look brand-new and beautiful again, and they're currently drying on a little rug in the front hall.
My hands smell like water and leather, but I'm so happy it's silly! :-)

Time for a change.
Jan. 26th, 2008 01:27 pmFor over a year, the title of my journal was "The Real Thing." I chose this title back when I implemented my own Coca-Cola themed layout, and it was a perfect fit. Eventually, I switched over to a new layout (back this fall, I think?), but I never changed the title.
Until last night. Just before bed, I renamed my journal, "A mess of a dreamer." It's fitting in so many ways, just as "The Real Thing" was so perfect for so long.

Goodbye, old friend.
Jan. 26th, 2008 03:22 pmI have decided that Mexican food no longer agrees with me. This 'better eating' thing that I've been doing for four months now means that my body doesn't know what to do with a huge intake of salt and grease. Those chicken tacos, fajitas, chips, and salsa tasted good going down, but enh... they're not so great the next day.
After a couple of poo's today, I feel a little better. Even so...
Ugh.

Boy things.
Jan. 26th, 2008 03:55 pmPhilip just left to take the boys to do some "boy things."
He's on his way to the Lied Center to sign Jack up for an indoor soccer league. We gave the option to both boys, but A.J. politely declined (as expected, really). Jack, however, leapt at the opportunity (also as expected). I'm sure he will have so much fun during his Saturday morning practices/games, and I'm excited to see my little guy ripping it up on the indoor field.
After registration, they're heading over to the comic book store to sell A.J.'s Yu-Gi-Oh! card collection. A few months ago, while cleaning his room, A.J. decided that he is now "way past Yu-Gi-Oh!, Mom," so we set them aside for selling/donating. He is still fully immersed in Pokemon, I should add, and any monies that he might make from selling the Yu-Gi-Oh! cards are likely to fund the next purchase of Pokemon ones. Ah, but it's what he enjoys, right?
I'm sure Philip will have a fine time in the comic book store, too. He stops by every couple of weeks and picks up the newest editions in the handful of series that he reads. ;-)
