*evil grin*

I picked up the phone and dialed Philip at work. As the phone was ringing, I noticed the time - 12:00am exactly. He answered in the Control Center, and I wished him a Happy Birthday. We talked for a few minutes, and then I let him go so that he could give his full attention to an exercise going on.

...

Except that I called the desk then - at 12:04am. An "Airman Hickey" answered the phone, and I explained to him who I was, and that I was calling to inform the flight of Philip's 27th birthday. I gave him my express permission to announce the occasion to any and all flight members, and that any embarrassing displays would be most welcomed.

At 12:06am - just now - the phone rang here. I picked it up, and Philip jokingly told me how much he hates me for telling the flight it's his birthday. Of course, I denied doing such a thing, but he knows me better. I gave in and asked what had happened in just two short minutes, and he told me that Hickey came across the radio for all stations, announcing to all posts that it was the Flight Chief's birthday and that everyone needed to be advised.

I love it. :-D

I had a headache coming on this evening. I took some ibuprofen and decided to watch a movie from Netflix. Everyone has warned me that Million Dollar Baby is a real tear-jerker, and crying doesn't help impending headaches, so I decided to steer clear of that one for this evening. Instead, I chose to watch A Wedding for Bella.

Oh, my sobbing eyes! It's no better folks, I swear it. A beautiful movie - touching and wonderful, but a real tear-jerker as well. I feel sorry for my headache tomorrow already!

Edited to add: Netflix classifies Bella as a 'comedy.' Comedy - ha! There were lots of smiles, but I wouldn't have called it a comedy. Actually, when I really think on it, I'm not sure how I'd classify it either...

While checking out the garden today, I decided to pull several pretty green tomatoes and try a recipe I've heard talked about for years. My friend [livejournal.com profile] greencow (appropriately named for this topic, don't you think?) had found me a few recipes for Fried Green Tomatoes, and I pulled up the link and tried one tonight.

The verdict? I think they turned out well. They looked exactly as they do in the movie of the same name, and I was glad for that. However, I think that fried green tomatoes might be one of those recipes that are better if you were raised on them. I thought they were okay, but I wasn't "wowed" by them. The boys ate their servings (one fried slice each), but they didn't ask for more. I doubt Philip will enjoy them tomorrow, for two reasons: 1) they'll be leftover, and leftover fried foods are never as good, and 2) he doesn't like trying new things.

But hey - now I can say that we've tried them, right? That's something. I do wonder what most people eat with fried green tomatoes, though. I didn't know, but I figured that since I was already using hot grease, I might as well make fried chicken. I did, and we also had barbecued beans and peaches. It was a nice meal.

Now... if someone else would just come and do the dishes...

As you may recall, our 8th anniversary was last Tuesday. On Friday, the boys and I were out in the afternoon with my pal kristchan Kris and her daughters at the zoo and such. Philip left for work after we left for the zoo, so we didn't see him again that evening when we returned. However, I did get a proper goodbye from him. When we walked into the house, I noticed two beautiful roses, waiting perfectly in a green-glass Coca-Cola® bottle (my favorite kind of vase!) on the kitchen counter.

Now, Philip leaving me roses to find is not necessarily something new. Often on days that he mows the yard (as he'd done earlier that day), he spies roses in the bushes across the street, and he cuts and brings them to me. But he left a note underneath the bottle this time:
"Honey,

Flowers for my Movie Queen!

Me"

Gosh, I love that boy. I do think he's hoping for a repeat showing at some point in the future. ;-)

* And by the way, Kris also read the note and was sufficiently ready to puke at the sweetness. I told her that, although the flowers were nothing new, the note was, and that it had most likely been left behind for her benefit. ;-)
