And 'Mr. Fruity' came to be.
Mar. 20th, 2006 02:51 pmHappy Snow Day! Well, we did get some snow in the wee hours of last night, and it finally began sticking to the driveways and streets. The boys were so excited to wake up this morning and hear that we would be able to finally build a big snowman (the snow earlier in the year was not really great "snowman" snow).
We donned tons of clothes. Jack has a snowsuit, so he only wore one pair of pants and a shirt underneath that, but he did wear two pairs of warm socks. A.J. and I both wore two pairs of socks, two pairs of pants, two shirts and coats. We all wore warm gloves and hats, too. Finally, we were dressed and ready to go outside!
We started the bottom ball of the snowman in the front yard, just up by the driveway. By the time we finished rolling it to the large size we wanted, we were all the way out in the back of the yard! A.J. rolled the middle ball of snow, and Jack rolled the snowman's head. We patted everything down really well, and then we set to work making the features. We used strawberries for the eyes and a rock for the nose. At first, the boys decided on a female snowman, so I began making a necklace of red grapes. As I was putting on the last three grapes, a huge gust of wind toppled the snowman into me and all over the ground! All our hard work - lying on the ground again!
I repaired the middle and top balls, and I set to work on the face again. This time, we scratched the necklace idea and just went with strawberry eyes, a rock nose and grape buttons down the front. We placed a bright red scarf around the neck of 'Mr. Fruity the Snowman,' and A.J. chose a hat from the house - a green leprechaun hat, in honor of our March snowman.
Ta-da!

I'm pretty darn proud of 'Mr. Fruity,' as he's my first BIG snowman, too! (Philip has helped make a small one in Alaska with me, and I'm sure he made tons growing up in West Virginia, but I never had much opportunity for that in my part of Texas. *wink*)
( More snowman pictures. )
Afterwards, the boys played for a bit more before coming in. We stripped off all of our wet layers (I'd rolled all that snow on my knees, and I was DRENCHED!) at the door and put on cozy, dry clothes. I made hot chocolate for everyone, and we snuggled under blankets for a bit. I'm still freezing, though, so I'm about to pop in the tub for a nice warm-up. :-)
