HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MIONEMIONE!

I hope you have had a fantabulous day, [livejournal.com profile] mionemione! Sadly, it occurs to me now that I don't know your first name... and I feel like I've heard it somewhere... :-/ Help me out, please?

Well, the plans didn't carry themselves out well today. We were to meet up with ashen_butterfly Gretchen today sometime, but our cards crossed. I called her cell phone and left a voicemail message for her. I then ran out to get cookout food for later with them, but she called the house while I was gone from her NEW cell phone and left me a message. I couldn't call her back though, as the entire new number didn't make it on to my machine, and the zoo was unable to page anyone for me ("I'm sorry, Miss. We do not have any sort of intercom system. If it's an emergency, we can post signs..."). *sigh*

So I had lots of burgers and hot dogs and strawberry shortcakes... but no people to meet. At 3:30pm, I called Ann back (she'd called earlier in the day wanting to set a playdate for sometime this week), and we set last-minute plans for her and her kiddos to come play and eat this evening. I called niecer1 Janiece as well, but it was a bit *too* last-minute for them to work it into their plans. Still, Ann and the kids came over. :-)

We'd bought a new Slip 'n Slide this afternoon as well. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle® one bit the dust last weekend, and we got a Nemo® one on sale today. The kids had a great time on the new slide, and hetterrific Heather ended up joining us for dinner as well. The grill ran out of gas, so we had to finish the burgers and hot dogs inside, but everything was still very tasty.

Can you tell which kids are mine? Here's a hint: mine are the dark ones. ;-D

Yesterday the weather was a far cry different from today's rampaging storms. It was a sunny and hot afternoon, and the boys played on their Slip 'n Slide for the first time this summer:

Jack and A.J. race each other down the Slip 'n Slide.

They only slid down the slide the 'correct' way a handful of times. The rest of the time was made up of turns on their backs, turns going backwards, turns crawling on their elbows, or "Cheeto" turns (which consisted of spiraling all the way down the slide). They had a great time though, and played continuously for just over 3 hours.

Some highlights. )
