Rash talk.

Home again, home again.

The doctor's appointment finished in exactly the amount of time it took for Jack's Christmas program - nice timing! The doctor thinks that the sudden rash today is a result of last week's mystery fever (seven days ago?!) and that it was just a small virus of some sort, and she's cleared him to go back to school... tomorrow. He could have gone back today, but Philip had already told A.J. he wouldn't have to go back, and then the doctor wrote the note that way. His rash is even on his legs, but it is disappearing quickly too. So strange.

So. I have two happy, energetic kids now relishing the unexpected time together in the living room. I can hear them making plans to go sledding after lunch now (I must interject here that we currently do not have snow on the ground - their "plans" amuse me greatly!). Who knows what the rest of the day holds?

Well, it's starting off to be a fast-paced Monday, that's for sure!

I took A.J. to the school this morning, dropping him off right at 8:05. I came back home, moved one load of laundry into the dryer and a new load into the washer, answered a few emails and then was interrupted by a call from the school nurse at 8:35. I scrambled to get dressed properly (I take A.J. while still in my jammies), and I dropped off Jack at preschool quickly before picking A.J. up at school.

A.J. had a swollen red rash over his entire face and down his neck, bumpy and pimply even. I was flabbergasted - I had last seen him exactly 30 minutes prior and he'd had NOTHING! This happened last year too, and I had to pick him up. I took a picture of the rash with the camera last year, and I was glad I had because by the time I got to the doctor's office, it was already long gone. Such will be the case again, I'm sure. The rash last year seemed to concentrate more on just one cheek, whereas the one he developed today covers his nose, mouth, forehead, most of one side of his face and all down the sides, front and back of his neck. The rash has already lessened greatly in the time since I've picked him up, and his doctor's appointment is at 10:45 - I'll bet it's virtually gone by that time. The doctor will give him a note to go back to school, I'm sure, but we'll still not have any idea what causes such a sudden flare-up.

We went to Target and bought gifts for Jack's preschool teachers. Today is his last day of the year, and I'd completely forgotten about gifts for the teachers until last night! His Christmas program and party is today at 10:45 as well, so I'm going to drop Philip and A.J. off at the doctor's, go to Jack's school for that, and then we'll be back to pick them up after 11:30. If A.J. is cleared to go back to school, then we'll have to grab lunch quickly since he will have missed his 11am lunchtime.

In other plans, I'm going to finish laundry today, pay some bills and begin making very detailed lists for later this week. We've still got Christmas shopping left to do, plus I need to get everything in order and ready to be packed for our trip home. We fly out the day after Christmas, and that's just seven days away!
