Jack wrote the sweetest letter ever to his dear friend Natalie in Nebraska. I waited a few extra days before sharing it to make sure that she'd receive it in the mail first. (Sometimes her mama reads my blog.)
** Clarifications: Her dog, Lily, passed away this winter, and (Silent) Bob and Trixie are their kitties. Andrew is her brother. Also, HeartGold and SoulSilver are brand-new Pokemon DS games.
Edited to add: I'm not crazy how my tabbing makes everything suddenly ALLCAPS!-y. I know it doesn't show from others' friends' pages, but still. Full CAPSLOCK always looks raging and intense if not intended for a joke. FAIL. (<-- ha, see what I did there?!)
Hey Natile,
What's going on at your house? How's it been in Nebraska lately? Just a couple days ago I got the new game HeartGold. A.J. got SoulSilver. How was your Birthday? My teacher's name is Mrs. Conklin. My new house is great. How's Andrew doing. I heard what happened to Lilly. Hows Bob and Trixie? Hope to hear back from you. Have a good easter. I miss you so much.
Your friend,
Jackson

Here vs. There.
Jan. 6th, 2010 06:32 pmIt's funny how very quickly the body begins to acclimate. I'm amazed by this every time we've moved - from West Virginia to Alaska to Nebraska, and now to North Dakota.
And, it's kinda fun to look back and say - very affectionately, of course! - that Nebraskans are being real wimps right now. :-)
We only left there a month ago tomorrow, but the differences in what is expected here versus the expectations there are incredible.
Examples:
- it's been snowing for three solid days here now, but nothing has been closed, cancelled, or shut down
versus...
- they cancelled school ahead of time last night due to forecasted snow of 4-6" (it wasn't snowing yet)
- the forecasted high temperature today here was 0°
versus...
- the forecasted high temp for Bellevue for today was 18°
- our current temperature is -5°, with a windchill of -26°
versus...
- their current temperature is 13°, with a windchill of -5°
- the forecasted high temperature for us tomorrow is -10° (not counting a windchill), and the kids will still be headed to school with no problems
versus...
- they have already cancelled school for tomorrow, with a projected high of 5°
We've had more snow, more blowing snow, and much, much colder temps. We've not had a 'snow day' here in Minot AFB yet, and I imagine it will be much like when we lived in Anchorage, Alaska - they probably won't. If they do cancel school, you can bet it will be actually necessary. As is, the kids here are still expected to have outdoor recess in school unless the temp is below -5° - they just go to school prepared with their serious winter gear ready. For my own two boys, they are loving it!

Remembering.
Jun. 16th, 2005 05:55 pmWe just came back inside. The boys were out playing in the sprinkler for over an hour and a half. I'm proud of myself - I didn't take even one picture this time (didn't even take the camera outside with me!). ;-)
Heather picked up some milk and cat litter for me, and she brought that over. We sat in the swing and reminisced for a while. Tomorrow will be 3 years to the day we arrived in Nebraska. In four days, we will have been living in this house for 3 years. It doesn't seem possible. Somehow, it seems like our time in Alaska was so much longer than these past 3 years, but it also feels like the time here has really flown, too.
It's hard to imagine that A.J. was Jack's age now when we first moved here. Jack was just a baby. We had no household goods for just over a month, and we became radical painters. We watered our then-dead lawn for 3 weeks before some life began to revive in it, and looking at it now, it's hard to believe that it was once a barren field.
Well, I'd better get going on dinner. I'm making chicken fried steak tonight, and I'm ready for it to be done. *tummy growls*
