... or possibly, while not thinking hardly at all, I came up with this gem on Wednesday at work:

Why do we call it "iced tea"? To serve this drink, we fill a cup completely with ice, then pour tea over it. To be more correct, I suggested to Ryan that we should call it "tea'd ice" instead.

There were lots of long, strange looks and *crickets* at my suggestion. Whatever - they know I make sense, and plenty of it!

But then where would people be if they make theirs by dumping ice into the tea?

Wouldn't that be sun tea? That's what it's called around here.

Yeah, that's my thought, too.

Like [livejournal.com profile] redwink said below, I'd just call that "sun tea." If you then want to dump it over ice, you'd have to call it "sun tea'd ice." ;-)

Those people can still call it "iced tea." (That's how I do it, in fact, but I just call it all "tea.")

As Captain Jack might say, "It does quite a lot, actually. Yet people are always surprised." ;-)

That's what I do as well. So you are allowed to call it "iced tea."

(Because what I say always goes, don't you know? *wink*)

I agree with you 100%, especially considering how warm some places keep there tea. I.e. BK's is usually not very chilled and when you put it over ice, you end up with watered down, warm tea. ick. I think Taco Bell is the same way.

We brew ours and keep it hot. It's requested that way constantly, and most people go on and on about how they love it compared to non-brewed tea from a fountain syrup. But we fill the cup all the way up, then add about an inch more ice, and THEN add the tea. It settles down just a bit by the time the liquid reaches the top of the cup.

Good question. Don't have an adequate answer yet.

i think it all depends upon how you make it.. I usually put the ice in first so i have tea'd ice. Then again my husband puts the tea in first than the ice. so i guess it all evens out

Your husband does it the "right" way (according to me, of course), and you're a freak. ;-)
