I know I was complaining yesterday about the lack of hotter weather in June (and yes, I'm sure I'll be eating those words at some point this summer). Even so, I really have no right to complain at all.

It's not even the hottest part of summer yet, but here's a glimpse at the local forecast where Philip is stationed:

BALAD, IRAQ LOCAL FORECAST
(** Red indicates the forecasted HIGH temperature for the day, while Blue indicates the LOW temperature for the evening. All temps are in Fahrenheit degrees.)

Monday, June 25: 113° / 85° - CLEAR
Tuesday, June 26: 112° / 84° - CLEAR
Wednesday, June 27: 111° / 86° - CLEAR
Thursday, June 28: 113° / 86° - CLEAR
Friday, June 29: 115° / 85° - CLEAR
Saturday, June 30: 115° / 86° - CLEAR
Sunday, July 1: 117° / 90° - CLEAR
Monday, July 2: 106° / no data - CLEAR

Philip says there are some days where haze is forecasted, but there's not any in his upcoming week. That's about the extent of change he sees - there's never any rain. He said the last rainfall they had was some sprinkles the first week of May, and even that was highly unusual. When he was in Iraq in 2005, the last rainfall he saw was in March.

I can't even fathom.

Sooner rather than later is a good thing! I'm continually thinking and praying for him (and everyone else who is serving/has family serving).

I'd so go raving mad and pass out from that kind of heat.

Wow. It reminds me of the stories my Dad told me about the weather in Vietnam. He said when he came back here it was July and in the 90s but he was cold because he was used to the jungle.

Yeah. Philip lived in his long-sleeved shirts when he got home last time, but it was tough to tell if he was just adjusting to the cooler temps or because we were actually heading into fall (he returned Oct. 6, for reference).

Oh yes. I do remember those days. And that's not even that bad. It gets really bad in August. Around 145.

*choke*
I took a field trip to a power plant backc when I had an internship at AEP. The outside temp was 90 (in August), and one area we went in was 120, and another was 140. OMG, you had to hide your face because it felt like it was going to burn off. And when you went back outside, 90 felt really cool. I can't imagine trying to live in an area where it's that hot.

I'll take my snowy winter any day of the week!

Hahaha!! Yeah...i'd rather be in the heat though. I'm from New Orleans, so cold just feels really unnatural to me.

Yep, I know. That's what I meant when I said it's only gonna get worse - a LOT worse!

I think I would die. I don't know how pregnant iraqi women would cope.

remind me when it's almost 100* and freaking hot here, not to complain. You've got it way worse!

When you actually hit the 100's for several days in a row, Philip will probably be solidly into the 130's.

ok, maybe I'll stop complaining about the weather... Nah. But it does put things in perspective.

ugh! Then I think.... when it's "hot" here we just put on shorts and a tank top. They have ALOT of gear to wear in that horrid horrid weather! I bet this viewpoint on OUR summers are alot different now, huh? I'm sweating just reading that! ugh!

Date: 2007-06-26 04:49 am (UTC)

Yeah, they're not allowed to roll up their sleeves and stuff over there, either (like they can here at the base). And they have to wear all that extra protective gear. UGH.

What a relief. He could be stationed in Phoenix.

Oh...wait...my bad. I just noticed Phoenix' forecast for this week:

Today: 84-109
Tuesday: 84-111
Wednesday: 85-111
Thursday: 83-109
Friday: 83-109

I guess it would be a relief to be there. Unless he has a night shift.

Yeah, but I never hear of Phoenix getting up to the 130's and 140's... and that's what Philip will be facing within the next month or so.

From what I have found, the record highs for these months are as follows:

June - 122°
July - 121°
August - 116°
September - 118°

And the humidity is lower, too. ;-)
