navygreen: (Thirsty?)

I am EXHAUSTED this evening. We went swimming with Herb while I was babysitting Josie this afternoon, and playing in the water always tires me out. I've felt like I'm in a fog these last two hours or so, but I did manage to take my shower and toss in a load of laundry (currently in the spin-cycle, I hear).

I made a bookmark two nights ago using navy and white, and when I starched it, the navy bled into the white. I was so bummed. Luckily, I've had several other ladies express their like feelings when I told them of it. It's always nice to have support.

And then yesterday I tatted up a bookmark for my mother-in-law. The entire bookmark came together quickly and easily, but I noticed a "fatal flaw" as I tied off the end. Nothing can be done to fix it, as the flaw is in the very first stitch of the piece, so that was 2.5 hours of my tatting time wasted. And what am I supposed to do with it? No one wants a flawed bookmark. :-(

Tomorrow starts the week of VBS for the boys. They are excited, and Rachel will be bringing them home afterwards and watching for two more hours until I get off work. They love Rachel, and it's been a while since she babysat.

I better drag myself to bed now while I still have use - albeit, limited and exhausted - of my legs.

Sometimes the most beautiful things are flawed. In the case of your bookmark, it's an indicator that it was lovingly made by human hands.

That was awfully sweet of you to say, Karyn. I appreciate it. Would you have any interest in this bookmark? It's made from a blue variegated thread, and if you would love it despite the flaw, I'd be happy to send it to you. :-)

It's sweet of you to offer. I would love to have it. I collect bookmarks, and Lance is currently using my favorite Turkish bookmark, so it would be nice to have a new one.

*HUGS*

I'm sure it's beautfiul.

I'll put it in the mail this week then. :-)

Thank you. No rush though...I'll be going home on Thursday and I won't be back here until mid-July anyway.

Duh. I forgot for a bit. I could just give it to you here, if you ever get your orders and have clearance to house-hunt...

Well, I leave in 2 days, and no orders yet. So no whirlwind trip to Nebraska is in the works at the moment.

I hate it when that happens with tatting. With knitting and crochet you can go back and fix it if you are extremely patient, but with tatting it'd be pure torture.

What do you use for starching? I've used spray stuff (which doesn't harden bookmarks as much as I'd like) and regular cornstarch cooked with water, which is just very inconvenient.

Yes, exactly. Being that it occurred in the first 2 minutes or so, I'd be better off just to tat a new bookmark than to spend probably longer than 2.5 hours ripping it out! (Can you just imagine opening all those rings - no thanks!)

I use this for starching my bookmarks. I'm in love with it so far. I only started blocking last week though, so I wouldn't take my word on what's best to use. ;-)

LOL. I have pictures from the last few days to put up, actually, but I just haven't had the time!

I'm blaming my horrid eyesight, cuz I didn't see ANY bleeding on that lol But you're an expert at looking at them ;)

Is the flaw THAT bad that anyone's naked eye would see it? That stinks! It was SO cute! And Jackie is just enthralled that human hands could do something like that lol

Water takes everything out of me too! Makes me hungry and tired! lol

I think you were just being too kind when you said you couldn't see it. ;-)

And the one I messed up is the one I made while we were on the swing - ack! If Jackie ever wants to learn, you might want to choose someone more skilled!

Nope.... I really don't fib on crafty kind of stuff. Cuz I know when *I* mess up on my own stuff how grrrrr of a moment it is and everyone else can see it lol I even tried the natural sunlight for the bookmark.

Yea.... I figured it was that one! Darnit! It was looking SO good too!

Well, if it was a minor flaw, that'd be one thing. This isn't minor, however; it's what I definitely deem to be a "fatal flaw." :-/

VBS stands for Vacation Bible School. All the churches have one week in the summer where they do a mini day camp of sorts, and it's loads of fun. :-)
