Philip thought he was helping this morning, despite his doing quite the opposite. He mailed a stack of things on the table that weren't really ready for the post yet, and I'm not sure what will become of a few of the items. One was a card to hetterrific Heather's mom, but it had an old 37c stamp on it. I intended to purchase the extra 2c postage when I took it to the post office. Two items were postcards to [livejournal.com profile] flyingwolf and [livejournal.com profile] adiasplat, but again, I intended to purchase the postcard stamps in that same trip. There's no return address on either of those, so I don't know if they'll be destroyed or sent 'postage due' to my friends.

Argh.

At least the belated birthday cards and the Netflix movie were truly ready. That's three going out correctly among the three not quite as lucky.

Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] mostcurious wanted to see some of the candles in action, so I obliged her and took a few pics.

Darnit, your husband might cost me 50 cents!! I don't think we can be friends anymore. ;-)

Knowing that I might get mail is almost as good as getting mail... Thanks for the smile! =)

I really debated saying anything, but then I thought that either of you might be offended when you received something postage due. But know that the thought was there (and "it's the thought that counts," right?), but the thought was ALSO to pay the postage. ;-)

aww. I wouldn't have been offended Not from you--and probably not from anyone else (but W3 ;)) 'cause I'd figure it wasn't on purpose. It'll be interesting to find out if I ever get it - and if I don't I'll make you tell me what was on the postcard later. :)

It's a really funny postcard (or so I thought), so I hope it arrives!

i thought that the clear cup tealights weren't supposed to be used in enclosed candle holders, like the tart burner, because it would be too hot for the candle cup. but maybe that's not considered enclosed?

That could very well be true, but I've never heard it said before. Even so, I only buy clear cup tealights, and I've used holders for years this way (some of them are coming up on 10 years!) without a problem, very often lighting them each and every night.

I do remember back when PartyLite used to have only metal cups, though. Crazy that I "know" them so well!

If I did this, I'd bring home a bouquet of 2¢ stamps.

I mean, because, Lord knows Dina don't want flowers.

Ha. I'm sure she'd appreciate you when she's having to stick about 20 of those suckers on a letter for it to go out in the post!

I'd even lick them for her.

...which is really stupid when you consider that we've had self-adhesive stamps for ages.

Heck, now you can print out your own postage.

No kidding. I've wondered about the lick'em stamps too.

I KNOW! I totally am. I want more candles! MORE!

Got any more pictures? I've been contemplating ordering a couple more items from Partylite- have you seen the new 2007 catalouge? I want the Budda tealight holder and the Reed fragrance thingy.

I need help. Between candles and plant stuff I am going to be broke! (I may or may not have just bought myself a bunch of tulips and some other kind of plant that I don't know what it is...)

*giggles* I figured you must be asking "Got any more pictures?" before you'd had a chance to see all the ones from yesterday. Everything was so beautiful!

The Iced Crystal Trios have a slight V-shape in the bottom of the globe, where the globe leads into the stem. Because of this depression, if you stick a votive in there right-side up, the wick falls down about 1/4", and it makes the candle burn a tiny hole around just the wick straight through the middle of the candle, leaving the rest of the wax. And then you have a useless, wasted candle stuck in the holder.

There's a couple options for making the holder burn better, though. One option (and that which I did for about six months or so in the beginning) is to fill the depression with salt, creating a flatter surface across the bottom of the globe. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. I found that the times where the method failed, the salt had melted into the wax and really just solidified into a deeper well in the bottom.

Another option is to pull the wick out of the votive (there's a little metal disk attached to the wick at the bottom, making this really easy to do). Then thread the wick back into the votive, starting at the top of the candle first. It makes your votive upside-down, but then the tip of the candle and the wick perfectly fit inside the depression in the globe. This perfect fit doesn't allow the wick to drop or slide below the candle, and all stays happy in the holder.

:-)

(I told you I'm OCD. *wink*)
