My sweet boys.

As I mentioned earlier, the boys have been really interested in their VeggieTales® collection again lately. In listening to the CDs and soundtracks so much, A.J. has really latched onto a favorite song - "Keep Walking" (it's from Josh and the Big Wall, an older episode we have on VHS). And because it is A.J.'s current favorite song, it is also Jack's favorite (he's the adoring little monkey in "Monkey See, Monkey Do" theorism, you know).
However, the song is sung by Jean-Claude™ and Philippe™ Pea - French peas in the VeggieTales series. As such, they sing with a French accent, and Jack stumbles a bit over the words because of the pronunciations.
A.J. worked long and hard one day writing a long letter at the table. I didn't ask what he was doing, preferring to be surprised later with the missive if it ended up being for me. Later in the evening, I was finishing up the last bit of mulch in the garden, but Jack wanted to play frisbee. I promised him I'd play as soon as I was done, but that wasn't quickly enough for him, and he sulked away to sit by the tree in the yard. As I worked, I noticed that he moved further and further away from the tree and myself, and he was inching closer and closer to sitting by the flags lining the driveway.
A.J. noticed this too, and he told me, "I think Jack's sad, Mom." He went inside the house and grabbed his long letter and a pen, and then he sat at the picnic table to put a few finishing touches on it. I noticed him getting up, and I stood up to see what he would do next.
Imagine my surprise when he walked right over to Jack's spot in the yard, plopped down next to him and began reading him his letter. I still didn't yet know what the letter said, but I could tell it was cheering Jack. I dropped my gloves and ran inside to get the camera, careful to be very quiet and not let the boys know that I was even there. I stood as far away as possible and zoomed all the way in to capture the special moment between the two of them.

Later on, I read the letter. As it turned out, A.J. had written this:

"To Jack: Here are the words to Keep Walking. Now you will be able to sing all the words like me. From: Jean-Claude and Philippe Pea."
And then he included all the lyrics to the song - every single line!

Date: 2006-06-07 09:20 pm (UTC)Oh and Josh and the Big Wall is our favorite Veggie Tale!! It's the first one we ever bought... we had to start somewhere and the one about the character that our Josh is named for seemed like a good idea. :) And we've loved it since the first time I "forced" Josh to watch it with me as an infant. The Keep Walking song is on my list of all time favorites and I *love* the little french accents. :) :)

PS - love the icon of the two of them on the beach with the striped border.... you could be an icon maker for elite graphics if you wanted....
