navygreen: (Armageddon)

Thank you to all for your input in this post. It does help to know that the majority of you just want me to be happy with my name, and that you're willing to adjust regardless. I have such good friends.

That being said, I'd still like some feedback. I'm going to tell you my choice(s), but I am really trusting that none of you will go out and swipe either name just to spite me before I get this done. Pretty please?

[livejournal.com profile] navy
Yeah, can you believe that's not already taken? I was very surprised. (army, airforce, marine and coastguard have all been gone for a LONG time, so I'm thinking that maybe this came up in the recent purging of deleted usernames.) Now why would *I* want this name?
- navy has always been my favorite color (navy blue, to be exact, but that's already taken).
- I choose pens with blue inks, and I scrapbook most often with this color.
- we chose navy & cream for the boys' nursery themes, and then we painted A.J.'s room navy when he became older - it's a "calming" color to me.
- our house "theme" is patriotic - there's navy everywhere.
- it's short and fast. Sassy.

The drawbacks? I can really only think of one, but it's a fairly big one. How dumb is it for my journal name to be 'navy' when I'm an Air Force wife? Yes, that's Philip and not me, but still... I'm sure the first reaction people would have is, "That's retarded," not thinking beyond the word to the color behind it.

[livejournal.com profile] holiday
Again, so many variants of this are taken, yet the root word is not. I'm surprised again. I can't believe it's not a community, even. As to the why's, well...
- I like to think of myself as 'the-gal-who-celebrates-everything.' If not that, then I'm surely 'the-gal-who-DECORATES-for-everything.'
- I'm always, always thinking ahead to the next holiday.
- it's fairly short, and I'm trying to get shorter.

A couple other options, though neither one is very short, and I'm not sure how I feel about them:
- [livejournal.com profile] navyholiday
- [livejournal.com profile] navyholidays

So here's the part where I'd like your input (again) - a poll!

[Poll #693218]

Edited to add: I've learned now that [livejournal.com profile] holiday is not an available option, despite it being 'available' up until the last step of renaming. Although [livejournal.com profile] navy is struck out as well, it still is available... not sure why. Still, I'd like all opinions on the poll above as if you didn't have this extra bit of information... for different reasons. Thanks!

And edited AGAIN to add: *sigh* Wouldn't it be great if we could edit polls? ... Yeah, the poll is supposed to ask you what your first, SECOND and third choices would be. *headdesk*

What about navyblu, or ms_navyblue ?

From: [identity profile] navygreen.livejournal.com
I thought about them, I did. I decided that I just really don't like anything with 'ms' or 'mrs' in front of it - they both make me feel old somehow. And after toying around with 'navybloo' and many other spellings (yours included), even 'hollyday'... I came to a conclusion that I think I already knew about myself: there is no way I could stand a username for myself that had a "weird" spelling. It's got to be spelled right, or I can't handle it.

Both [livejournal.com profile] navy and [livejournal.com profile] holiday are listed as recently deleted, so I'm not sure you can rename ot either of them.

I think buttonmommy sounds cute. Bit I do understand why you'd want to change. But I really would not choose navy, just because of the obvious implication. You'd have to answer the "Why did you choose THAT name?" question WAY to often and confuse people.

I'm trying to think of a new name for you on my own, but I'm coming up blank. But hey, we can't all have creative names like [livejournal.com profile] dottey, now can we?

[livejournal.com profile] ncleghorn could just as easily be my mother-in-law too. I want it to be just ME. And yeah, they both are scratchy, but if you try to get the name 'holiday', it stops you right at the door. If you try for 'navy,' you're allowed all the way up to 'Create Journal.' It's always possible that it's also not available, but it doesn't seem like it...

I am such a nerd...

Here are some thoughts. I've checked them all and all are either "unknown user" availble or say "this has been deleted and purged" unless otherwise noted.

navy_blue

saoire (Irish for holiday - in the spirit of St. Patty's day!)

then I went looking for obscure language disctionaries trying to find the word navy...I stopped with a couple of native N. American language, but could keep looking if you're interested)

I might actually be willing to PAY you to use one of those Native American Names... just so I can see all of your friends try to figure out how to spell them! ROFL!

I was about to suggest bluenavy, I didn't think of all those others as well though.

You're not a nerd - you're super helpful! Thanks for thinking of so many things just for me. I really appreciate it. :-)

holidayinblue. Because it makes me think of rhapsody in blue, which is just pretty to say.

I'll probably never change mine. It's become a household name! I did snag [livejournal.com profile] welf in the past, just in case I ever need to abandon ship...not to mention I didn't want some jerkface to steal it and pretend to be me or spite me!

If I had your name, I wouldn't be changing it either. It definitely 'suits' you. I know that lots of people probably feel that way for me about 'buttonmommy,' but *I* don't feel like it suits *me*.

I really like 'holidayinblue'... but it's still so long. I guess I'm just lazy. :-/

I really can't see using navy, because of the air force thing. something about navy blue, or the color navy sure. And holiday would work, because you are definatly addicted to decorating for holidays!

Overall, just choose something you like!

Neither name really strikes me, but probably because it's not me. You need to go with what you like. Just NAVY does strike a military connotation for me. I know you want short and sweet but maybe try adding some other descriptive in there. Or a unique spelling. I couldn't fit marshmallowhotchocolate into the limited space so I had to get creative and go with marshmelococoa - which I think is way cuter anyway.

Whatever you decide it will be because YOU like it and it fits YOU. You don't want to be doing this again a few years from now do you? :D

I *hope* to not be doing this again, but you never know...

I'm an indecisive one. I've changed my layout and colors a trillion times, but not my name. For now, that feeds my creative quandries.

drooooool, there's that icon again!

or what about incorporating celebrate/celebration/celebrating instead of holiday? Just another word option.

Date: 2006-03-18 06:34 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] navygreen.livejournal.com
The only problem there is that I'm just not a big fan of the word 'celebrate.' [livejournal.com profile] poetlady had suggested several versions of that to me as well...

Someone suggested....
