HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, GRETCHEN!

And darn you, ashen_butterfly Gret, for not having your birthday listed with LJ so that I'd know about it! *shakes fist*

With the abrupt drop in temperature here today, I was actually cold tonight. I needed to take a shower anyway, as I'd been pulling the weeds and other things in the garden earlier, but I decided to take a bath instead - to warm up my poor feetsies. Ahhhh - it was perfect. Mango Mandarin bliss, and I even shaved my legs. :-)

starrchld Annie stayed the night last night after hetterrific Heather and I returned home from the Neil Diamond concert. She had to be up early to call for a doctor's appointment here in Bellevue, so it was easier for her to just have a sleepover with me. I was so tired, too. Once we crashed into bed, I don't remember anything at all until A.J. appeared on the side of the bed at 6-something to ask if he could play the GameBoy.

Later on, Annie went to her doctor's appointment, and I started doing laundry and baking some more bread. I also perfected the pictures I took yesterday of lilmissriss Marissa and her hubby yesterday, and I copied them to a CD and gave it to her so she could order enlargements. She brought them by tonight, and I think - (though I might be a bit biased) - that they turned out really, really well. :-)

We went shopping this afternoon, and I bought the boys some things for the upcoming school year. A.J.'s had the same backpack for 3 years now (and it was just a freebie that came years ago when we started a Disney® book club), and it was looking pretty worn. Now he has a spiffy new Jansport backpack. Jack does as well - his backpack wasn't worn out by any means, but it was a miniature-sized one, and we learned last year that we couldn't fit very much of the day's preschool work into it.

I also bought new jeans for each of them, along with more jean shorts (can't ever have enough of those, and A.J.'s are now too small - even to finish out the rest of the summer). I bought a few shirts on clearance for Jack, and I also picked up a few cute things for my friend niecer1 Janiece's little boy, David. There were just so many good bargains!

(Speaking of Janiece, she finished Book One today! Now she is truly immersing into the world of Harry Potter!)

As promised, I'll put up a few highlights from yesterday's breakfast. As you know, we went to Krispy Kreme® to learn how doughnuts are made:

Doughnuts drying on the conveyor belt.

The very first thing we saw were the little doughnuts frying in the oil. They came in from the right, frying on the bottom side, and then as they passed through the metal box, a small rack flipped them over to fry the other side on their exit. As we watched, we caught sight of this little fellow:

"I shall call him Squishy, and he shall be mine, and he shall be my Squishy."

A little bit further down the belt, the freshly-fried doughnuts traveled up a small incline to pass under the icing. It was hard to watch this part without my mouth watering...

Icing the doughnuts.

And here's our friend getting a little sugary love:

'Squishy' gets iced.

Finally, it was time to eat. A.J. picked out his doughnuts first - a red, white and blue-sprinkled chocolate-iced doughnut and a Cookies 'n Creme doughnut. Next, Jack picked out his doughnuts - a chocolate-iced one and a chocolate-iced custard-filled one. I picked out mine as well (a chocolate-iced and a strawberry-filled), and then we checked out. A.J. chose chocolate milk, Jack chose strawberry, and I had just plain milk. Still, we were well represented in the dairy department. ;-)

We decided to eat outside, and Jack was ecstatic about the tiny rocks that made up the gravel (the easiest things amuse, you know). Then it was time to chow down:

A.J. takes a bite of doughnut.

Jack bites into his custard-filled doughnut.

It was quite the yummy and interesting breakfast - we'll have to go back soon!

Heehee. It took me over 20 minutes to make my post somehow, but yes - it shows up on my friends' list as directly between the two of you as well. :-)

*giggles* Karen and I rolled on the floor for that one... because I mean... anyone else, and it wouldn't have been anything. But it was YOU. And that makes all the difference. :D Because I mean... you are the center of this little group.

Cool post!! I love assembly line photos. Once at work we went on a field trip to a sugar refinery but they wouldn't allow photos.

I wish there hadn't been a big glass wall to photograph through, but I can certainly understand why it is there - otherwise, folks would be DROOLING on the doughnuts on the assembly line!

There's only one Krispy Kreme in Philly. ANd it's... like... 5 miles from my house. o_O

Freshly done glazed donuts taste like Funnel Cake. It's better than sex. Well, no, not sex.

Oddly, I think funnel cake and glazed doughnuts taste entirely different. But yeah - 5 miles is a bit much to go every day.
