Rain, Runza and classes

The very-much-hoped-for 'dance-in-the-rain' rain has never come. This disappoints me. :-(
The New Member Orientation class tonight was... informative. Janine is such an easy person to listen to, and I'm sure these next four weeks will fly by - then we'll be full-fledged members of our church!
Tonight we ate dinner at Runza (it was quick, and it's close to the church). I tried the Southwest Chicken salad with salsa instead of dressing, and oh my - it was so yummy! I think that salsa may become my new favorite dressing - I wonder why I'd not thought of this before? I also dropped off Philip's address to the people at Runza. His manager Ryan had asked me a few times for it, but I didn't have one to give him before.
I lit my Wild Blueberry 3-wick candle yesterday afternoon around 4pm, and I burned it all through the night. I even moved it into my room while I was sleeping. I didn't blow it out until around 10:30am today. I even forgot about it while I went to the gym, so I'm glad that the house didn't burn down or anything. But ahhh - the extra smell it gives off when it's been burning for that long is extra lovely. :-)

Date: 2005-04-06 01:20 pm (UTC)And candles...have you always been a candle person? Did you take a break from candles when your boys were little? If not, how did you combine candles and toddlers? How did you teach they boys to be safe around candles? I've got a lot of lovely candles, but have been hesitant to light them around little Miss IntoEverything. My recent candle order (Mojito, Raspberry, Ginger Current, and Pink Citrus) was all tea lights, so I could at least have short doses of candles when Meg's napping or I'm in the bathtub.
Re: Questions
Date: 2005-04-06 07:55 pm (UTC)I've always been a candle person, but I've been buying PartyLite for about 5-1/2 years now. I was introduced to it during a show in Alaska in the fall of '99, and I've been hooked ever since. I've been burning the candles around my kids (just A.J. back then) ever since. All of my candles are still kept up high (top of the entertainment center, shelves, small bookcases, countertops, etc.), but the boys also know by now not to bother them. I've had a few casualties of holders over time - a couple of times, the boys have thrown a toy accidentally on top of the entertainment center, and I've had to replace three pieces of my Iced Crystal Trio at different times (I have two full sets up there). For the most part, there are never any problems.
Like all things, you have to teach your kids that there are some things they just can't have. I've never been a fan of people who don't put anything on their entertainment centers or computer desks, saying that their children won't quit messing with things or will pull things off. That's wrong. You just teach your kids that there are some things that are off-limits, just like you would in any other situation. Candles are no exception. You might be surprised by her reaction, too. Jack has never even tried to touch a burning candle, but he is just as excited as I am each time I put new scents out. He runs to the 'candle bench,' and he HAS to smell every new scent as I put it in the holder - he loves these things! :-)
