Yesterday evening was the Open House at Jack's PreSchool. I wish I could have bottled up all his excitement, just so that I could release it here and everyone could experience it. He was really just amazing.

We went to Target in the afternoon so that A.J. could shop with his gift card from starrchld Annie. While we were there, we looked at the backpacks for Jack. All of the backpacks had some sort of logo or character on them, from every movie and kids' TV show imaginable, and they were all pricey because of that, ranging from $14.99-$24.99. Just as I was about to pick out just any old one (they all looked about the same to me), I saw an adorable little blue backpack. It was about half the size of all the others, and it zips apart into two layers. It's blue, navy blue and white, and it has sports balls all over it. It also has a separate, tube-shaped case that slides in at the bottom. I picked it up to examine it more closely, and Jack exclaimed, "That's my backpack!" And it was done.

We went to check out, and the perfect little backpack didn't have any tags at all. We'd scoured the section, looking for another one just like it, but it seemed to be an original. In the end, the cashier gave it to us for $9.99. Yay!

The second we got home from Target, Jack wanted to wear his backpack. We helped him put it on, and he danced around the house in it, talking at 90mph about how he was going to bring home his "hormwork" in it. I snapped a few pictures of him modeling his new pack, and then I told him he could take it off if he wanted to. "Nope," he said, "I'm wearing it." And he did. He wore his backpack for an hour and a half, until we left our house to go to his Open House, and even then, we had to take it with us (though it certainly wasn't needed for the event).

Once we got to the school, Jack was just bubbling over. We were walking across the parking lot to the entry door just as another little girl and her mom were walking out. Jack pointed at her across the lot and said, "Hey! That's my new friend!" And she did look young enough that she would be in the 3's class, so I told him yes, maybe she would be.

Once inside the door, we stopped to find Jack's star again on the bulletin board. A.J. was only mildly interested in that, and then they were both off into the classroom. "The toys are out!" Jack yelled. "My teacher's here! My new friends are here!"

Jack hung up his backpack on the rack (the only one brought, of course). He zipped along all of the centers, giving each a couple of minutes' time. We talked to two of his three teachers for a little bit. Philip and I also spent a good deal of time talking to the parents of one little girl named Rudi, who's 3.5 and will be in Jack's class. They were very nice, and they asked us lots of questions about the school after we told them that A.J.'d already been through there.

I took Jack to the bathroom sometime during the middle of our visit. He was still frightened of the fan, but we were able to get through it together, and he did go. He had a great time washing his hands at the "school sink" with the "school soap" on the "school step." :-) Then he went back to join the fun in the classroom.

It was hard when it was time to finally leave. Jack had a few tears - he was just so sad to go. I think he will be even more excited tomorrow morning now - his first day - after the events of last night. He was such a happy little kid. It was such a great experience.

Awwwwwww! :D

Bailey can't wait to go back to school, this will be his 2nd year of preschool. All his older friends and brother are back in school so he's extremely bored waiting for them to get home. lol

Our little boy is growing up. *tear*

By the way, I talked to my mom tonight and she loved the message. She said she was going to try to call you sometime.
