Lights in my windows.
Jun. 15th, 2005 01:27 pmI decided to finally retire to bed last night around 3:15am. As I was turning off the lamps in the living room and extinguishing my candles, I saw a flash of something outside my large picture window (to which the curtains are open ALL the time, even at night). Without turning my head as I snuffed the last candle, I just assumed it was a flash of heat lightning or something.
I walked over to the window to watch, and then I saw the light again... only it wasn't lightning. It was a man in plain clothes and a man in military uniform walking around a few yards in my neighborhood. As they walked into the light of a nearby streetlamp, I saw that the guy in the uniform had all his weapons on his belt... but he wasn't wearing a security forces beret (just a normal cap). Not only that, but I checked all of the windows in my house, and I couldn't find a security vehicle in sight ANYWHERE.
It was very odd. He walked like a cop (if you've ever noticed how they walk with all their gear, you know what I'm talking about), but his uniform was missing a crucial piece if he WAS a cop. I got a very creepy feeling from seeing them, and they were obviously searching for something or someone.
I was going to call
Marissa and see what she thought about it (and also warn her that someone was out there), but her house looked very dark, and I knew she'd be wanting to go to bed early so she could get up when her hubby got home later. I also knew she wouldn't probably get back to sleep if I called her with creepy news, so I didn't bother her. I double-checked the locks on my doors, and I headed off to bed. The uneasy feeling wouldn't leave for a while, and I laid in bed with my eyes wide open. About 10 minutes later, I saw the flashlights coming through my windows. They were walking around in my yard, right next to my house. At one point, they were close enough that I could hear muffled voices through my walls. At that point, I so badly wanted to call the security forces desk, to verify that they had someone in this area, but I found that I couldn't make myself get out of bed and dash to the other end of the house to use the phone. Finally, they went away.
Of course, then I laid there for ANOTHER 10 minutes, just trying to calm myself.
It's common knowledge here now that the Peeping Tom I mentioned a few months ago has never been caught. In fact, he's still active every so often, and the security forces have been hiding out in empty houses some nights, trying to catch him. Maybe that's what they were doing last night. Maybe there had been a report. Maybe the plain-clothes dude had just lost his dog or something. I don't know, but it was sure creepy.
