OMG.

"Pear" is truly NOT a difficult word to commit to memory. Additionally, the same should be said of the word "pair." Most importantly, they do not mean the same thing.

YOU DO NOT SUBSTITUTE 'PAIRS' FOR APPLES WHEN MAKING A CRISP!

You don't use pairs?! I do.

How about peers? Maybe I'll use up some of my peers for a crisp....

As an aside, have you ever tried pair crisp? We did it once and it wasn't that great. The pairs weren't that ripe so it was too crunchy. I plan to pick a lot of pairs from my neighbor's tree this year though and I think I might try again but may cook the pairs a little bit in a pot on the stove ahead of time to try to soften them up a bit.

hehehe. Sorry. Had to.

I was going to type that I like to eat crunchy pairs, but then I realized that too many things could be added after pairs. So I'll just say I like to eat pairs that aren't quite ripe yet, but for baking they need to be ripe.

Unhelpers get a good sporkin', Leanne. Just so you know. ;-)

Oh good, I'll use my spork to eat my spam. Thanks! You're the best! :)

Hey, do you want a pair? I picked it from the neighbor's tree....

Oy. Trust me, I share in your scorn for bad grammar.

[identity profile] navygreen.livejournal.com 2007-09-22 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
It's just plain wrong.

But, I do feel your pain.

Ah, thanks. It's good to be in such great company.

Today's grammar lesson is about homophones. From onelook.com, noun: two words are homophones if they are pronounced the same way but differ in meaning or spelling or both (e.g. bare and bear)

YES. Thank goodness they didn't add anything about "pares" too.

[identity profile] gardenmama.livejournal.com 2007-09-22 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, you know, you need to pear your pairs before you cook them in the crisp!
