The Jack Post.

Jack is reaching some exciting milestones right now, and I keep meaning to put them down.

1) He has his first very wiggly tooth! It shan't be long at all now before that bud falls out, and I'll have a gap-smiled 5-year-old in my house once again. He's about five months behind (age-wise) when A.J. lost his first tooth, but then Jack cut his almost six months behind A.J. as well. It's funny how that works out, isn't it? When A.J. had his first loose tooth, I couldn't wait for it to fall out - I wanted him to have that "big boy" milestone, and I was so proud of him. For Jack, I'm torn between different emotions: happy because it's a big milestone, sad because he's still my baby and I'm just not ready for my last baby to loose a tooth, as well as wistful - wishing that Philip could be here to see this "first tooth" come out as he was when A.J. hit this same event. Regardless of my feelings on the matter, though, that tooth is coming out SOON!

2) Jack headed out to play this afternoon, only to immediate return with a BIG envelope that had been delivered and stuck inside the screen door. And it was for him - it was his Kindergarten registration packet! When I told him what it was, he took off running through the house, "A.J., I just got a big letter from Kindergarten! The Kindergarten wrote me a big letter saying I can come next morning!"* He's so darn excited, and I can't wait to take him to the Kindergarten Round-Up later this month.

* No matter what frame of time in the future we're talking about, Jack always refers to it as "next morning." At dinner, if I ask him if he'd like leftovers for tomorrow, he'll answer, "Yeah, I want to have them next morning." If I tell him anything is happening in the future, he'll ask excited questions about what he'll be doing "next morning" during said holiday celebration. I love Jack-anese. :-)

Both of my boys always reference "last night" or "last year". They use "tomorrow" when talking in the future even if it's not the next day. Funny kids we have!

I hate wiggly teeth!! EEEK! I don't mind them gone, but I hate to see them moving around and dangly and icky and stuff! And I can handle some stuff, I've seen things and parts most people haven't, but I can't do wiggly teeth!

Take a lot of pictures. It's not the same as Philip being there but I'm sure it will make him smile huge to get those in a package. Heck, have the Tooth Fairy send him the tooth too! Then he can tell Jack that it was left under his pillow with a note from the Fairy saying that Jack lost it.

Kindergarten! Ugh, can you believe how fast that time has come?!

That's such a neat idea to do with the first tooth for Philip - thanks!

As for Kindergarten, I'm *more* than ready for it, actually. Don't you remember my anguishing over the decision last year? No fun. I'm ready to move on and fully celebrate!

Leif is like Jack - he says "yesterday" to refer to any time in the past :)

I love it and seriously don't want him to grow out of it. :-D

No matter what the time frame, if it is in the past, (a day, a week, 3 years...) my daughters say, "Last day ago." I think it is so cute! My husband wants to correct them when they say these little gems, and I want to treasure them. They also ask, "Can I scale?" to weigh themselves, and, "How pounds am I?" to find out the result. :)

I won't correct him, but I won't say it back to him the same way, you know? It's adorable, and I'm not ready yet for him to stop saying things his special way. :-)

When is Jacks birthday? My Emmy (which btw I call her langage Emmyisms lol) was born 11-22-01, so she'll be nearly 6, but she's entering the kindy world come fall too! SO bittersweet, huh?

WTGrow Jack! (also, it's REALLY hard for me not to type Jackie when I type Jack, I normally have to backspace hahahaha)

Jack will be 6 on 8/9/07. You can read more about our decision to keep him back this year in this entry from last year.

And my younger sister's name is Jacki, so I know what you mean. ;-)

Lots of exciting news for Jack!!! I'm going to make an appointment for Nicholas at the dentist because I'm a bit concerned that he has lost 0 baby teeth so far.

Nicholas still mixes up time sometimes and will frequently refer to things that are going to happen as 'next year.' ;)

Well, like I said, Jack is behind A.J. in losing his teeth. It's so tough to tell, 'cuz teeth are such a funny thing. Some kids never lose their teeth and have to have all of them pulled by a dentist. Some kids (like me) just pop teeth left and right.

I love the special words and phrases. Think how sad we'll be when our boys are all grown-up and no longer say things in their own special way? *cries*

What teeth do kids usually lose first? I'm a bit concerned because Nicholas has the silver caps on some of his teeth and we were told it would have no effect on them falling out but now I'm wondering. Guess a dentists appointment is in order!

I know, the glimpses of childhood are getting to be fewer and farther between, my 'baby' is most definitely getting to be a big boy.

Usually the middle ones on the bottom, followed closely by the middle ones on the top. :-)
