Busy little me.

I woke up this morning at 7:42am. A.J. was already up and watching cartoons in the living room, and I stumbled straight to the computer to check on the school's status: nothing was listed, so I figured that Ft. Crook Elementary must be open like normal. I went out and started the van, and I came back inside and picked out A.J.'s clothes so that he could start dressing.
Meanwhile, I finished getting dressed, and I woke up Jack so that he could potty before we left. I got him dressed as well, and the boys both wanted to wear their new toboggans and gloves - cute! Jack and I dropped A.J. off at school, and then we came home for the 40 minutes or so until time to take Jack to preschool.
He played with a new puzzle for a few minutes, but then Jack decided to keep me company while I unloaded the dishwasher, started a load of laundry, etc. Before I knew it, it was time to go. I bundled him up again, and I had him dropped off and was back in the car by 8:56 - pretty good time!
I ran to the bank to get a money order for a magic lamp that I won on eBay.
I should backtrack here for a moment and give you
The 'Magic Lamp' Story
When A.J. wrote his letter to Santa this year, he asked only for a magic lamp (and Jack asked for a candy cane). With the latest release of Aladdin, A.J. is crazy about all things that remind him of the movie. He draws the characters DAILY, and he acts out pretend stories with Jack, both of them role-playing. We happen to have a little red-and-yellow monkey Beanie® baby, and they both call it 'Abu' and include this into their stories. We have some little Disney figurines of Jasmine and Aladdin and the Genie, plus some magic carpet toys from some recent McDonald's Happy Meals... but no magic lamps.
Oh, A.J.'s drawn a ton of them. And he'll even rub his flat, 2-dimensional drawings, pretending that they are real lamps. It's cute, but it's also so sad, you know?
We looked for a magic lamp all over, knowing that we probably wouldn't find one. I even thought about buying him a teapot and painting it gold, but none of the teapots we saw could possibly be construed as a magic lamp in any way.
On Christmas morning, A.J. was excited, of course. Even still, after he finished opening his stocking and all of his presents, he came to me quietly and said, "Mom, I think Santa forgot to check his list twice." Though he never actually SAID that Santa must've forgotten his magic lamp, I knew what he meant. And in the two days after Christmas, while he and Jack were playing with toys, I heard him tell Jack the exact same thing: "I think Santa forgot to check his list twice."
I felt so bad. :-(
I was telling
Annie and
Maria this one night while we were scrapbooking last week. Annie asked if I'd checked on eBay. D'oh! I never even thought of that! Sure enough, when she got home that night, she looked and sent me some links to some auctions that had magic lamps on them... and we won one of them!
And A.J. will be so thrilled, I know! We'll have to tell him that it was backordered or something for Santa, but I'm sure he won't care too much about that. ;-)
While at the bank, I also inquired about starting a new military checking account. We'll need something a little bit different while Philip is away, so that we don't get bombarded with ATM transaction fees and such.
I then drove to the store to pick up my last paystub for the year. I want to get to work on our taxes now so that I'm not thinking about them while Philip's parents are here. I chatted with Carmelle and Cyndy for a bit, and just as I was about to leave, I noticed some gifts on my desk! I wasn't expecting that, and I was so excited! They got me my own desk calendar (I almost cried because I felt so special!), Cyndy gave me an adorable little set of handpainted snowman coasters in a holder, and Carmelle gave me a Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip cookie mix. How sweet! :-)
Now I'm home, I've started the second and final load of laundry, put away my new goodies and I'm fixin' to call the corporate office and see if they will give me the Payee Identification number for taxes - then I won't have to wait for the W-2, and I can go ahead and file.
Oh, and I should probably take a minute to read my friends' list, right? ;-)
