navygreen: (Christmas - socks)
On Friday night, we attended af_cop Philip's squadron's Christmas party. It was hosted at The Club in Papillion, and there were probably 150+ cops, families or dates there. The boys went too, and they were the ONLY children there. (They'd said that kids could come, but I guess no one else wanted to bring theirs. The boys, however, had been pretty excited about it.) We'd been told to dress casual but that jeans were not allowed. We saw people in ballroom evening gowns, and one or two that did wear jeans, but most everyone was in slacks or skirts or nice suits.

It was a fun time. The place they'd booked for the event was very nice, and there were trees decorated all over, lights and garlands strung about, and gateway arches of fabric and lights that you had to walk under. The tables were lit by candles, and there were decorative sprigs of greenery around the holders, plus holiday Hershey kisses strewn about aroud that. Our meal was very nice, and the lines moved quickly through the catering staff. There was an open bar, and A.J. wanted "lemonade" like everyone else (beer), but when we told him what it was, he happily settled for a Coke. Heehee.

The higher-ups in the cop squadron were a hoot all night. There was a live DJ at the event, and people paid money to pick a person who would then have to sing a karaoke song. Lots of the "victims" chose to sing country songs, and the boys loved singing along. Jack and A.J. even went up to the stage (where no one else was at the time) and danced their hearts out while everyone in the crowd watched them. Between karaoke songs, tons of prizes were given out (probably 60 or more prizes altogether), and the boys helped the MC draw about half of the names - they LOVED that! At one point, A.J. told the MC that "Mom likes to sing a lot," and I must've turned ten shades of red when he said, "Oh, really? Well, let's get Mom up here then!" and the DJ came over and plopped the song-choice book in front of me! Thankfully, no one ponied up money, and I wasn't forced to sing - I probably would have cried instead!

They pulled six volunteers from the crowd to play a game with oranges and pantyhose. It was really cute, and the 1st Sergeant won that one. (And wow - "1st shirt" Brito was really pretty drunk by the end of the night - that was too funny!)

There had been folks voting all evening on three people to wear elf costumes (complete with tights) at the end of the night. Sure enough, the MC ended up being on of them, along with two other men. They donned their costumes during the last few karaoke songs, and then they picked nine other people to come on stage and sing "The Twelve Days of Christmas" with them. Before they could begin singing, though, twelve MORE people were picked to come and stand behind them all, to be the arms for them and to pass the mike back and forth through each person as they sang their lines. It was hilarious to watch!

The grand prize drawings were held at the very end. They gave away two prizes of $50, one prize of $200, one home theater system and one PlayStation Portable. We didn't win any big prizes that night, but we did come away with a $5 gift certificate for ice cream. :-) It was *just* shy of 10pm when we walked in the door, and the boys did their Advent calendars and went straight to sleep.

Yesterday was a whirlwind of preparing for my Wrapping Party. Philip and the boys had plans to spend the evening with Ryan and his girls, since his wife Sarah was at my party. They met him at Burger King, let the kids play in the play area for a long while, then went browsing at Toys 'R Us for about an hour, and then went back to Ryan's house to watch movies and play. They ended up not coming home until almost 11pm. The boys quickly did their Advent calendars again, and then jumped in bed - they looked exhausted, going to bed over two hours past the normal bedtime!

Our party was fun, and we got all of our presents wrapped. A few folks couldn't make it, and I spent over two hours calling niecer1 Janiece, trying to figure out where the heck she was. She'd been more excited than anyone, I think, about this year's Wrapping Party, and I'd just talked her shortly before 4pm... yet she wasn't there, and the party started at 6pm. After trying for hours (her home phone was busy all that time, and that was weird in itself, and her cell phone just kept ringing and ringing, never going to voicemail), she finally called me at almost 9pm. I had just *known* something was wrong, and it was. She's been learning to knit these past few weeks, and her son Dave (who just turned 5 on Thanksgiving) fell down, and the knitting needles went into his chest! She was calling me from the Emergency Room at Creighton, where he'd been ambulanced after being considered a trauma (they were afraid he'd maybe nicked his lungs). He's okay now, and was actually released late last night - he's on antibiotics to prevent infections in the puncture wounds, of course - but man. How awful! We'd missed her at the party, but we were SO GLAD to hear that Dave was going to be okay. *hugs Janiece*

hetterrific Heather was the last to leave last night (around midnight), and then I stayed up until about 3am, cleaning up and just piddling around. I didn't even download the pictures off the camera. I was SO TIRED when I woke up this morning. The alarm went off at 8:20am, and the boys were still SOUND asleep (which made sense, considering they'd been to bed very late two nights in a row). We woke them up, dropped Philip off at Runza at 9am, and then we came back home and got ready for church this morning. After the service, we met Heather for lunch at La Mesa, and I returned her camera to her (I'd found it under a pillow on the loveseat while I was cleaning up last night). She even wrote about lunch here (first entry of the day), and it's worth the looksee. ;-D

After lunch, we took naps. We all needed to catch up on our snoozles. We had a relaxing dinner of leftover party food, and then we played several rounds of "Christmas Bingo" until it was bathtime for the boys. They did their Advent calendars, and then went to bed. I'm doing my third load of laundry for the night at the moment, and Philip and Ryan are playing X-Box in the living room. Ahhh - a nice, relaxing evening. :-)

It was a good weekend. Yay!
