Dad update

I have to work today, but I wanted to let you all know what I know at this point.

As of yesterday at about 4:30pm, Dad (and all of my family) had been waiting over 7 hours for an ambulance to come ("any time now") and take him on the hour-long ride to the new hospital in Tampa, FL. Yes - they had been waiting THAT LONG.

The hospital that my dad is currently in cannot understand how everyone else keeps delaying his case so. They can see that his condition is very serious, and they are embarassed and appalled that none of their "sister hospitals" are doing more for him and my family.

As of right now, the only real option is waiting on the doctor who went on vacation - so, Monday looks like it will be the day of the surgery.

Dad is doing as well as can be expected. It would be one thing if he were drugged up and going in and out of sleep. However, he's positively fine right now (although confined to a bed and allowed absolutely NO movement for fear of "aggravating the condition"), and so it has become very straining on him to just sit there. Nothing else - just sit there... and he's been doing that since Monday morning.

The whole situation is just so scary and so frustrating.

If anyone calls today, Philip will call me at the store and let me know immediately, I'm sure. I won't be able to check in again here until I get home, but now you know everything that I do.

Also, I want to apologize to all of you - my friends' list - as I have been barely keeping up with anything or anyone else right now. I'm posting, but I'm not really getting to read much, and even when I do, my attention and my heart is just not here right now.

You are the best friends I could possibly ever want, and I feel so very, very bad for neglecting all of you. I hope that you all understand. :-(

Oh, and I should let you all know as well... Philip made it home safely last night, albeit almost 2.5 hours late due to the snow in the Las Vegas area.

We stood in the kitchen and I hugged him for so long, not even letting the boys have a chance. Finally, when Jack started screaming next to us for Daddy to pick him up, Philip let go of me and tended to him. (But he hugged me again for a long time just a minute later.)

And oh, how I needed his comfort yesterday. I am so happy he's home now.

What part of "I need to see your checking account statement" translates into you handing me your bank debit card? I'm only curious because this has happened to me three times now - two of those times were today, even. *shakes head at stupid people*

Speaking of stupid people, we've got a girl who hasn't paid for her check, and it was due on Tuesday. Her excuse? "I'm from Louisiana, and I've never been in the snow before. I don't know how to dig my car out of the snow." Sadly, I'm not kidding here, folks. The worst part is that she's a military member. What's going to happen when she's deployed and a bomb goes off somewhere? "I'm sorry - there's snow out there today, so I'm not going to go out there and fight."

*sigh*

I also had a guy come in to start a new account. He kept passing the most atrocious gas the whole time he was filling out his application - NOISES included! It was awful, and I kept coming to the back room to get out of the room and breathe check on the fax. When it finally came through, the guy tried to act like he had no idea why there was a bad report on him. Only when I finally called a few of the other stores on his report did he "remember" having an account out with them. Good grief. I was glad his stinky self finally left, and I didn't have to spend the normal amount of time with him, finishing up his account.

Other than that, it's been a slow day. There was only one check due today, but there were three checks left-over from yesterday. Usually I have around 12 or 13 checks for Saturday, plus some left-overs from the day before. I've been playing lots of Tetris and listening to lots of music, though. :-)

*breaks typing for a customer pulling in the parking lot*

Holy cow. Someone just came in here to open a new account and borrow money, and I couldn't do it for her. She had 19 NSF charges in the past TWO AND A HALF WEEKS! (Not even the full 30 days I normally look at - I finally stopped counting.) And she left screaming at ME about how we were the "stupidest, suckiest store" and did I know "anyone better that [us] she could go to?" (After leaving, I watched her go into the store across the street, only to come marching back out about a minute and a half later.) Wow - I hadn't had anything quite like that before. Amazing. She's lucky that her bank only charges her $26 for each NSF - I've seen fees much higher than that before.

*breaks for customer again*

"Ms. Louisiana" just came in. She was going on about how her hands were "soooo cold!" I asked her if she had worn gloves, and she said no, she didn't think she'd need them here in Nebraska. I told her to prepare herself - this little bit of snow was nothing compared to what I know Nebraska can dish out, plus we have more snow coming next week. Her eyes bugged out when I said that. *shakes head again*

For any of my fellow Longaberger-lovers, if you are interested, I have posted pictures of my 2003 BEE Album - you can find them here. :-)

Today would have been Elvis' 70th birthday. As such, I made sure to celebrate it by taking my G.I. Blues soundtrack to work with me. That, and I reminded nearly every single person who came into the store that it was the King's big day. I got a lot of smiles - a few of them with an underlying hint of "This chick is CRAZY!" in them.

And I'm okay with that. :-D

Because being an Elvis-lover is a requirement to living in the Guynes family. And I am definitely IN. :-)
