When I was 5 years old, I had a magical birthday party at Burger King. You see, I remember wanting a party at McDonald's the year before - like, it seemed, all my friends had had - but they were already booked for my birthday weekend (Nov. 13th), and I was so sad. The same thing happened for my fifth birthday, but my mom saved the day by booking Burger King.

On that magical day, I received the most magical of gifts: a Sesame Street playhouse.

The best toy ever.

It came with a handful of SS character figurines, as well as a couple of beds, chairs, and even some playground equipment. Over the years, I played the HECK out of this thing - it was my very favorite toy.

When A.J. was a babe (seven months or so), I visited my grandpa in Virginia. In his basement, I found my mom had stashed a few of my old toys, including this playhouse. I snagged it SO FAST, and I held onto it until A.J. was old enough to play with it, too. He loved it for years, as did Jack later on. Now that they are older, I've given away most of their toys, but this one still remains in my house. I keep it ready, too, in case a friend with a little one drops in.

Now, a dear little girl was turning 2 years old this past November, and when we went shopping for her birthday gift, Philip and I stumbled upon an amazing gem: a 25th anniversary edition of my beloved playhouse!

Lily's new playhouse.

I couldn't get my hands on it from the shelf fast enough! Philip grabbed an accessory pack of character figurines, and we headed home with our prized gift. When the boys saw it, they marveled. We put the old beside the new and compared - so similar!

Mine and Lily's together.

Now, mine had an Oscar the Grouch that popped from a trash can when a button was pressed in the floor. Lily's newer version didn't, but she did have a movable fridge and TV in hers instead (mine were just decorations painted onto the inner walls). Each definitely has its own merits, and I couldn't wait to gift Lily with her new toy, hoping she'd love it as much as I'd loved mine for so many years.

The inside of mine, including all remaining figurines and furniture pieces I still have.

But the very best part of it all? Lily squealed in delight when she opened her gift. She LOVED it! Not only that, but it has been almost five months now, and this playset is still her very favorite toy. She even took it on an airplane with her when she traveled last month - wow!

My hat to you, Sesame Street. Twenty-five years later, and you're still making magic! :-)
