Letting it all down.

I've had my hair up in a bun all day long today, and by 4:30pm or so, I honestly began to feel like my head was too heavy to hold up.

Is this even possible? I mean, whether my hair is up or down, there's still the same amount of it, right? It should weigh the same, no matter where it is. And really? We're not talking 'Crystal-Gayle-length' or anything here - just... normal hair.

I just took it down right now because I was starting to feel almost dizzy each time I was aware of the heaviness - almost like my head was swaying ever-so-slightly.

I'm a freak.

I don't know if it's really possible, but I've felt that way before!

I'm not alone!

Never having had long hair, I wouldn't know, but I do remember what my daughters have told me. They said that when they'd pull their hair back or up in styles different from their norm, it made their skull ache. *shrugs*

You've *never* had long hair? Not even when you were a little girl? I can't imagine!

If I put my hair in a too-tight ponytail for too long, after I take it down, my hair hurts.

I know, it's really the follicles, but it *feels* like my hair hurts.

We can be hair freaks together. *Grin*

Yes, I know that feeling. I have to take my hair down a few hours before bed, or that hurting is enough to make it difficult to fall asleep.

I have hip-length, really thick hair, and I have that problem all the time. It's because all the weight is concentrated on a central point when it's up in a bun, whereas when it's down the weight is spread all over your head. It doesn't seem like it would make much of a difference, but it does. I have problems turning properly in ballet when my hair is down because the weight on my head is distributed differently and I have trouble spotting.

Gah, I can't even imagine the difference in ballet dancing. That must be so hard.

You're not a freak! No, when hair is up, it generally does feel as though there's more of it. I feel it too. When it's down, it's not really burdening your head as much.

Maybe we're both freaks. :P

Yes, we probably are. ;-)
