navygreen: (Draco - banned books)

Games, books and more books.

So I smoked Philip in the first round of our new trivia game. I beat him in the second game as well, but it was a separation of only one turn for that one. He's read the books too, just not as many times or with *quite* as much enthusiasm as I have. ;-)

I received my book in the mail today from [livejournal.com profile] yorkybar! I was so excited, and I was very happy to get it so soon - it only took a week, and that was from England! It is soooooo funny, just as I knew it would be. I've read [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda's "15 Minutes" on Jurassic Park, Titanic and - of course - Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Sorcerer's Philosopher's Stone. They are ALL fabulous, and I couldn't contain my laughter (though Philip and the boys kept giving me looks like I was deranged). I highly, highly recommend her book, especially if you've already loved her stuff in [livejournal.com profile] m15m. You won't regret it. Thank you again, Lizzy, for nabbing me a copy - you are the bestest! :-)

Philip and Ryan are in the living room playing X-Box, and I think I'm going to rearrange some things in the office. Our tax return is coming very soon, and with it, we plan to get another bookcase or two (though how much room I can make with rearranging will help us decide). We have board games out to WaZoo, and I've got to figure out a better place for them, as they are taking four entire shelves themselves! I've also got lots of new books needing homes:

And I intend to have more books very soon, so we need more space!

Welp, I'd better get back to clearing off my desk.

I interupt this reading of your post to say, "Girl, I think I might be horny, becuase you just said you smoked your husband... "

[identity profile] navygreen.livejournal.com 2006-01-27 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
LOL, yes you just might be. ;-)

[identity profile] yorkybar.livejournal.com 2006-01-27 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
Glad to know it got there :)

Thanks again!

I *just* got Runny Babbit for Christmas from my mom. I collect Shel Silverstein books, but have yet to read my new gift.

[identity profile] navygreen.livejournal.com 2006-01-30 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I bought it from a book club for our family. I keep thinking we've got Silverstein's entire collection, but then I find another one, and this one was it! It's a cute book, but I still love Where the Sidewalk Ends the best - I've got nearly every poem in it completely memorized.

I believe that it is ilegal to smoke hallucinogenic substances.

Loads slow, but quite mesmerizing when it works

[identity profile] navygreen.livejournal.com 2006-01-30 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
This picture is MESSED. UP.

(But you knew that, right?)

[identity profile] jeffholton.livejournal.com 2006-01-31 11:09 am (UTC)(link)
No, no, the picture's just fine, see?

Is something wrong with your eyes?

Har. Har. :-) I completely wasn't expecting that.

I have a large problem of providing proper place(s) for my books. I know it's much better if you leave some space in between them. But it's difficult. I have very much rediscovered the public library in the past couple of years not only to save money but to save space and thus, my sanity. ;) I am becoming very careful as to what books I want to buy and which ones I can get and only read one time.

Well that was a long winded explanation. lol.

I have the HP DVD game. Some of it is actually quite difficult.

[identity profile] navygreen.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, just using the public library would probably be a better option... but just love having lots of books! I mean, the boys have TONS... shouldn't I as well?

We really like the HP SceneIt? DVD game as well. The Triwizard game we received for Christmas was really laden with rules, and Jack gave up pretty quickly (it's the game pictured in this icon, too). This Sorcerer's Stone trivia game was actually more difficult than we thought it would be. The questions expect very detailed answers, and the information is taken only from the books. If you're like me, no matter how many times you've read the books, the movies still skew your memory just a bit. I did better than Philip (obviously!), but I still had to think twice before I answered a few times.

I'm just gonna add you as a friend now. Seems that we just keep popping back up in each others' journals, doesn't it? ;-)

[identity profile] donnazita.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
lol...I'll add you too. Which brings me to an incredible...six friends. ;)

I was looking at your interests and you include "chocolate". Wow, awesome (giggle). Seriously, I love it.

Are you also a fan of Tom Hanks? (apparently)....he's the best speaker I've ever seen at the Oscars. I have one or both of his speeches written down, it was so beautiful.

Honestly if I were wealthy I would devote an entire room to my books. And call it a library. ;)

As for the HP games, I'm not like some people who have read the books over and over and over. I've read 1-4 5x each and the 5th 2x, and the 6 1x. Right now I'm reading Inkspell by Cornelia Funke and what's funny about her books is that while I thoroughly enjoy them(!), it takes me a while to get thru them.

[identity profile] donnazita.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
Oh!, and thank-you for the compliment on my painting. :)

[identity profile] navygreen.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
You're welcome. :-)

[identity profile] navygreen.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
Well, you've got me beat! I'm pretty sure I've read Book One four times, Books Two-Four three times each and Books Five-Six only twice (though I've also listened to Book Six on CD twice now as well). In other words, I don't want to play YOU in our new game - heheh.

Tom Hanks has always just seemed like the most normal, likable, down-to-earth guy there is. He could be a prat in real life for all I know, but I've never gotten that "feeling" from him. I love-love-loved Bosom Buddies when it was on TV, back in the day, and I can remember watching Splash! over and over (daily, even) when I was younger - he is so great in everything that he's in.

[identity profile] navygreen.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, and I forgot to add: Inkspell and Inkheart are both on my list to read very soon. I'm currently reading Christopher Paolini's books, but I keep seeing recommendations for those two every time someone mentions Eragon or Eldest. My friend [livejournal.com profile] mionemione has also talked about wanting to read those books, and I trust her literary judgment.

[identity profile] donnazita.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
I discovered Neil Gaiman last year, and loved his Coraline and enjoyed Stardust, which would be super as a movie, IMO.

[identity profile] navygreen.livejournal.com 2006-01-30 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll have to look into those as well.
