The verdict.

The Corned Beef and Cabbage verdict:

Me - eh, not so much
A.J. - edible, but loved the brisket
Jack - HECK YES, WHEN CAN I GET THIRDS OF EVERYTHING?!

I don't think I did anything wrong, I just wasn't really in the mood for it after smelling it cook all day long. Since I'd never made it before, I didn't know how that might affect me. In addition, I haven't had a good appetite all week either, and that might have been part of it.

The rolls and the mint chocolate cheesecake were phenomenal. Even the cheesecake, though, I only ate three bites of and put the rest of the slice in the fridge for later. My tummy's just not quite right. I do have pics, but they'll be posted some other time.

I fell asleep while A.J. was in the shower tonight, and then again the second Jack was done with his bath and had given me a kiss goodnight. I napped for almost two hours on the couch before I woke up. Then I was all, "ACK! I have to do the dishes and start that load of laundry!" *zing!*

Now it's time for a chapter or two of my book (The Last Song) and bed for reals.

Ugh, just hearing people talking about it these last couple of days has made me green in a very bad way! I grew up in a house where corned beef and cabbage was a fairly frequent Sunday dinner. I can almost still smell it cooking! Ugh, it was gross and just hung in the air like a thick, pungent fog. Bleck! I don't think I'd ever eat it again, given the option!

I think the sandwiches today will be better, though. We all thought the corned beef was pretty good. I'm planning to grill the bread, serve it with light mayo, swiss cheese, and the corned beef. Here's hoping!

Yeah, my secret to Corned Beef and Cabbage is to put it in the crockpot, go to work for 9 hours, and come home to the smell, where it smells good because I'm starved! :) But yeah, smelling cabbbage cooking all day is definitely not the way to go! :)

For me, I think it was more the corned beef. I mean, I worked at Runza for three years, and I smelled 88 POUNDS of cabbage cooking on a twice-weekly basis with no issues. ;-)

I put my corned beef in the crock pot with nothing but the spice packet (that contained no salt). It was in there for 9 hours). At 5 o'clock I added cabbage and golf ball sized red potatoes. We ate at 6:30. Nate and the kids lived the potatoes. Everyone enjoyed the beef--even though it was super salty! I poked the cabbage.
