Pittsburgh vs. Minnesota.

I'm not sure I'd ever seen this logo in my life before I needed to "cookie" it:

Pittsburgh Penguins cookies.

And, eek! What a challenge! Several weeks ago, Trisha contacted me to see if I could make some Pittsburgh Penguins cookies for her hubby. You see, the Steelers had been his team, and she wanted to cheer him up from their loss. I looked at the logo, gulped a few times, then steeled myself and said, "I'll do it."

Hockey teams wear long-sleeved shirts, but I didn't realize my mistake until AFTER baking: my only jersey/shirt was short-sleeved. I modified the look to be as authentic as possible, and I think they turned out okay.

But the most frightening cookie to work was this guy. There were two logos I could use, and I called them "hard" and "harder". This one was the "harder" of the two:

Most of the shapes were hand-cut, including this one, and then I piped the penguin's design onto the white. While it looked to me as if I (mostly) had his shape correct, I realized my error as I tried to add the golden triangle behind him. I tried to draw it at the points it was to intersect the body, and as such, the triangle didn't meet at the end. *sigh*

The "hard" logo was another hand-cut shape, but his details were much easier to eyeball. I piped the white edges, and then I waited a while before flooding the black and gold sections. I like the ways these guys turned out. :-)

And then I had one last attempt to get the "harder" logo right: on a blue button. In reality, the button is a 3" circle, so I knew that even the finest piping would be too smushed. I used my food color markers instead, and THIS time, I didn't worry about the triangle intersecting the body, and I just made it to scale behind the penguin. Yay!

But that wasn't all! Trisha had asked if instead of one dozen Penguins cookies, I could do half-and-half with some Minnesota Twins cookies thrown in, too! And so, I began working on another detailed set. At least this time, I was sure I'd seen the logo before. :-)

I gotta tell you, though - just having seen the logo sure didn't make it easy to duplicate! Again, I went with a "hard" version, as well as an easier logo. These were the "hard" cookies:

And the easier logo, too:

Lastly, she wanted her hubby's favorite player made into a jersey. That was the super-easy cookie! :-)

And, as always, I included her coordinating Thank-You cookie:

I learned from these cookies that I can do more than I think I can, but I can also push myself in a real time-crunch, too. These cookies were ordered and turned out in about 40 hours' time. It feels nice to have something so intricate under my belt now, and it gives me a bit of confidence facing future projects!

I just had a joygasm over those Penguins cookies. And I HATE the penguins. You managed to do all three of their logos perfectly. The jerseys look fine too. Equally great job on the Twins set too.

Now, if you want a challenge, I'll have to order a set of Union cookies for one of our tailgates. I might do that this summer. I'll let you know.

You are amazingly talented. Just so you know.

Yay! You saw them! I was anxious for the moment that YOU would see them. I thought of you while I was making them. :-)

Union cookies? Aieeee!
