I've dreamt of owning Helvetica cookie cutters since first seeing this post, originally shown to me by [livejournal.com profile] grrliz about 2.5 years ago. Back then, it was just about a love of all things Helvetica. (You've seen the film, right?)

I've had that bookmark saved for all this time, I joined the mailing list to be notified when the cutters became available, etc. In all this time, the only change to come from this is that I began making sugar cookies...

I made my first sugar cookies in February 2010, just about a year after seeing that post. Weird how that works, isn't it?

However, a great baking company (Fancy Flours) has now released a set of Helvetica cookie cutters. Finally! Yay! I'm so stoked! Wheee!

Except they come with a price tag of $215. Yes, really.

*heavy sigh*

Yikes. Guess you can't call it a business expense :(

I mean, I've paid $4-5 for a cookie cutter before, but even that amount x 23 (as the set comes with) is still at least $100 shy of that total. Crazy!

yeah - that's over $9 a cutter. For $215 you'd expect to get 26 capitals + the small ones.
Maybe the price will come down? Or someone else will make a more reasonably priced set?

(and - OF COURSE IT'S A BUSINESS EXPENSE. But it's still and EXPENSE, and you shouldn't pay more then a reasonable amount for these)

In looking at them, I really wonder if the original girl who made them didn't sell the rights/plan to Fancy Flours. I just would never have fathomed they would be SO MUCH when finally mass-produced.

wow - those are expensive but if they are quality made and are going to last and do a good job it is probably worth the investment.

I just figure that most folks - if they're wanting alphabet cookies, that is - aren't really going to care so much what "font" the cookies are. The Helvetica hard-on is just a geekery of mine. ;-)

actually, that C looks weird - how would it be a complete cookie? looks like 3 separate pieces

Cookie cutters are like that, though. It's usually for the benefit while gripping them, but I'm sure the actual cut on the back is correct.
